Could you give us a hint. It appears to be made from wood as do the hangers. It also appears to be underneath a stairway to the left. From the photo is is hard for me to distinguish if it is 4 feet long or 20 feet long. A little help please. It does look to be something that is used to dry something else.

Not a clue from me so far. Interesting though.

Maybe as guides for striping bark from logs or to steady logs to be 'sliced'.

Yes I read the post. I am assuming though that if he took the photo he could answer the simple questions I posed such as was it 4 feet long or 20 feet long.

Thank you for trying to do whatever it was you were trying to do.

I did some on-line research for similar photos. I found 2 from an open air museum near Graz. One seemed to be in a storage area and had wrought iron hooks hanging down form it. The other looked like it was in a kitchen area. One log was longer and went over the stove with a pot hanging form it. I'd guess it might be for storage, or possibly for drying or smoking foods for preservation. The semi-hoops might be dividers to hold the items upright and separated for air circulation, or for ease of removing just one.

Being as it is in that part of Europe, it is prolly a containment device for vampires to keep them still during the driving of the wooden stake.

While I don't know the weight or if the curved pieces are wood or metal (I assume wood), it looks like it could be a liter for carrying someone, but it would have to be pretty light weight to go very far.

Are you talking about a litter to carry someone? If so it seems as if it would be mighty uncomfortable laying on all of those upside down U's.

I wouldn't expect someone to lay on that without something between them and it, but yes to carry someone. In scouts we have made litters that were light and made of a lot of sticks with a sort of rope net under them. You put a sleeping pad on top of the sticks and then a ground clothe and the person on a sleeping bag. While it may seem uncomfortable, it wasn't and was made from what is usually available on a camping trip.

What is in the picture looks pretty heavy though and unless padded, would be more uncomfortable than just dragging them down the mountain.

Exactly. I have made and used litters but not one of them ever looked like the item in the photo. There is no reason for anything but a flat frame for which a blanket can be attached or ropes can be strung from side to side to hold a type of cloth or other material to support the injured.

It would help if we had some dimensions but the OP who supposedly took the photo has not given that information on such as length and width or what it is made of though it looks like logs.

Great talking to you,

Dennis

I have asked an Austrian friend of mine who might have a response. If he knows, I will pass it on immediately.
