Constructed in 1895, the Biltmore Estate is 175,000 sq ft with 33 bedrooms, 65 fireplaces, and 43 bathrooms. The cost of construction was $6 million, which in today's dollars is $1.6 Billion. Well worth the $70 per person cost of admission.

It’s fabulous - especially at Christmas. We Go about once a year (it’s a little over an hour from our farm). Our children love it and one has a season pass. The other got engaged there. It’s a special place. We tell everyone who goes to the Smokies to make sure they make time for the Biltmore because it’s not that far. The Chihuly glass exhibit last year was great. Glad you enjoyed it!!!

Amazing especially at Christmas. As you said well worth the $70 admission fee for a very full day of sightseeing and the restaurants are great too!
Be sure to take the evening tour at Christmas, you won't believe your eyes.
Smile,

If I remember the man who built it (the owner) spent only one night there and died of a ruptured appendix. Also three was a railroad built just to supply the house construction. Also there was special grounds work done by a leading landscape designer plus the town of Biltmore
itself was essentially created for the created for the construction. In the town when I was there years ago there was a dairy store in town that made the most wonderful milkshakes you can imagine. I was originally there when the entry cost was far less and the winery was a dairy stable. Yes I am very old.

My wife and I were there one year to see the Christmas decorating. Wonderful place. Been there three times. Would go again, even if $70.

Yes it is a beautiful place. My sister and I have been there. I read the book The Last Castle by Denise Kiernan. I would tour it again now that I know more of the history.

Went there in early 1950s. Wife's brother driving. Got to gate, was told admission was $8 each and he wouldn't pay it. Turned around and went home. (And the brother had a supervisor's job at Motorola!!!)
