Two beauties John. Excellent shot of my favourite big cats.
Really nice. It's too bad the fence shows in the background. It would be awesome without it.

A couple of you had questions or about animals in a zoo. Being a docent I get to spend a lot of time observing zoo animals, so here's my lessons learned:
1. Zoo animals are generally more active in the morning, so get there early. The summer is the worse time to visit the zoo. It's too hot and too many people. Go in the fall and spring (temps in the 50's & 60's) or in the winter even when it's cold. Will increase your chances but doesn't guarantee success.
2. Big cats in the wild sleep 18 or more hours a day. Likewise, they're often sleeping in a zoo. It takes patience and luck sometimes to get interesting shots. So I recommend going in cool weather, arrive when the zoo opens, plan enough time and be patient.
Excellent shot, great detail.

I volunteered at the Detroit Zoo on Wednesday. Cold and rainy, but of course I took my camera anyway or maybe because. I spent two hours at the Amur Tiger habitat and captured both male tigers in this appealing setting. Amur (previously Siberian) tigers are native to the remote forests in the Amur district in Russia. This setting captures that well and the fall color was a bonus.
Lovely shot of beautiful cats. Thanks for clarifying that Amur tigers used to be called Siberian. I was wondering what Amur cats were.

Great that you volunteer... and wonderful image too.
I love what you did with the big cats, John. Great shot!
Also, thanks for the great info on visiting a zoo.
I've been to the Detroit Zoo about three times, the last visit was about 30 years ago. I might have to plan a return visit.
