I have always been a Pentax fan because I feel I can get more bang for the buck. I presently own a K-3 and am very happy with it, but like to learn more so as to get its full potential.
I have own a Pentax 18-50 f2.8 lens, a Pentax 55-300 lens and a Pentax 18-250 walk around lens. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have a K1000 that I use when things might get too dicey to use my Nikon F. Thus, it's hardly used. I also have a 6x7 w/ 3 lenses.

Hello, Pentaxians. I too am a PENTAX fan and have been (avidly) since I was sent to Vietnam, 1968. I bought a Spotmatic and it came with the pentax 50mm F 1.4 lens. Before I left Nam to come back home, I bought a 200mm Pentax. I loved my pentax stuff, and used it well into the 90s. Ultimately I let a friend have it all(very cheaply) and inherited a couple canons, when my younger brother passed away. They(and Film) didn’t go on much longer, and the canons bit the dust, in 2K. I bought a canon eos 30-D as my first digital body. I then got a new Pentax K-01 digital(mirrorless). It lacked a few features that I wanted, so the I bought a Pentax K-5. All good, but I was impressed with the Pentax K-S2 so I bought one. About four years ago i was invited on a photo excursion to Africa, and I bought a K-1 Full-frame along with a 150-450mm Pentax(alsoFF). Now...I haven’t mentioned any of my real reasons for remaining an avid PENTAXIAN, and if you haven’t guessed=====The lenses, I must have nearly 2 dozen Absolutely great PENTAX lenses. A couple 3rd party(Sigma) lenses also. I always loved the fact that pentax didn’t change mounts every time they brought out a new body. Many of my lenses work perfectly with my K-1 FF. Recently I bought into the idea of mirror-less and now own 3 x-body Fujis. I like their glass to and now have a 27mm an 18-55, an 80mm(MACRO) a 100-400mm with a 2x converter, a 55-200, as well as a very inexpensive 16-50 mm kit. I see a lot of similarities with the TWO brands (pentax & Fuji) Great glass, smart bodies. Am not likely to OPT-OUT of either. I hope Pentax(as a company) hangs on, who knows. Enjoy your Pentax, I really am happy with the brand , For 50 years now.....RJM

I use a K70 mostly with vintage manual lenses. Try www.pentaxforums.com for an active Pentax community. Lot of helpful people over there.

I have a Pentax Spotmatic which I use occasionally. A very comfortable and well designed camera. Unfortunately the meter doesn't work - the needle is stuck. But I use the camera anyway.

I too started with Pentax in about 1968 with a S1a. I bought a K100d and now have a K-3 and K-5. And a bunch of lenses. But I now shoot primarily with Nikon. The tracking focus for Pentax doesn't cut it for me as I enjoy birds in flight.

Hello. I'm a pentax user. I own a K30, K3, K5sii and a K70. I too have a Pentax 18-250 and keep it mounted to the K3, a pentax 18-135 mounted to the K70, a sigma 17-50 mounted to the K5sii and a pentax 18-55 mounted to the k30 . I have a pretty good assortment of lenses but seem to use the super zooms the most. I spend every morning here lurking. You can learn a lot by just observing. Enjoy your Pentax, it's a great camera.

I first used Pentax Spotmatic back in the early 70s, then K100D, K-x, K50 (died, aperture block), now K5iis. Use a mix of manual and auto lenses. I second pentaxforums.com, as well as Pentaxians Facebook group.

About two years ago, I bought a used, like new, Pentax K3 for $400.00 and I've been very pleased with it! I bought it because I too saw that it was more "bang for the bucks" than most anything else I compared it to even at two or three times the price. I also have several older, very nice, film era, lenses that I can also use on the K3 body in manual mode and this too was a big factor in making this purchase. Overall, this has worked out quite well and has proved to be a big step up from my Canon T1i.

Frankly, the only negative in my eyes has been the low light performance. ISO settings get noisy fast around 1600 and I seldom use over 800 ISO unless it means missing a shot entirely. However, given adequate light, I'd match the K3's performance with just about any other crop frame camera out there. Considering the age of it's sensor technology, I think this is saying quite a lot and I would recommend the K3 to any aspiring photographer on a budget and wanting to improve their skills and produce excellent images. Good luck and good shooting to all.

I started with a K-10 which I still use for backup and alternate lenses, and now use a K-3 with a variety of Pentax and third party lenses.

I have the very same camera and lenses, including a few other Pentax and Sigma lenses and the K5 and K01. I use the Pentax equipment for planned photography, such as photo trips and tripod work, but I use Canon Powershot cameras (G16 and GX5) for travel and hang/walk around impromptu photo shooting. The Pentax cameras are great to use but my only complaint is their relatively slower auto focus than other brands. If Ricoh wants to stay competitive, it needs to develop some quality mirrorlesss cameras to compete with Sony, Fuji, and the others. Canon’s new M6 II would be a good model to benchmark for this purpose.
