Learning all of Photoshop may be humanly impossible!

It's Version 20.x now... a quarter century of development has yielded an impressive and powerful collection of tools, or bloatware, whichever you wish to call it. I still remember Versions 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and CS 2, CS 3, and CS 4. If my former self from the early 1990s could play with the latest, I'd probably have gone mad.

".. a quarter century of development"

And they aren't done. You get to go mad again.

Next week is "Adobe Max". I've seen a couple sneak previews this week. One public "pre-release" is out to generate excitement leading to next week. Selections are yet again easier, quicker and better. Direct from Adobe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Qm5nS2PMBs

HOW do you update your ACR (RAW files preprocessor in Elements)? I have PSE 12 and use a Canon 80d and my PSE will not open the RAW photos. Pain in the butt but.... I have been making all the photos Digital Negative then can open in PSE 12. BUT then most need to be made into 32 bit instead of 64 bit.

You must buy or rent a *currently supported* version of Adobe software to get new ACR camera support profiles.

I have come to use a combo of ACDsee for management and Photoscape for editing. ACDSee has some simple editing tools but is best for an intuitive database of photos. I have Luminar which I seldom use, tho it is quite good. I used to use ADOBE but got too pricey for me and too complex. Affinity is like Adobe and therefor too complex. But it can do a few things way better. Sumo has the all the bells and whistles for free along with the learning curve.

Go ahead and look at Photos in your Launchpad. It does 95% of all the editing I generally need to do. Best of all ....it's free.

I AGREE! I don't like to make my photography seem like work and I find Apple "Photos" to do everything I need. Very easy to use unlike Photoshop and the others. If you're a pixel peeper you might prefer some other program. If it's not already on your Mac computer look for it in the Apple App store.

My current Photoshop Elements 10 on my eight-year-old iMac will not process raw photos taken with my D750.

I am moving to a new iMac. What is the best (and easiest) processing software to go along with my new computer that will allow full processing of pics from my Nikon D750?

Luminar 4 which is being released in about 10 days... you did say easiest didn’t you?

Cheers.

Update: I spent an hour in the app store and could not find the Apple app PHOTOS. As several have said it should already be on your Mac computer as it comes with the loaded software. I like it's predecessor "iPhotos" and now "Photos" even more.

What version of mac OS are you using? Mac “photos” is a part of the mac OS. You might look in the mac app stote under “purchased apps” if not there then “Apple Support”.

Photos should be part of every new Mac, and every new release of MacOS. It is in the Applications Folder.

[ComputerName]/[StartupDriveName]/Applications/Photos should get you there.

The one annoying, newbie-confusing thing about Photos is that, like iPhoto before it, it saves all your original files in its own Package File:

[ComputerName]/[StartupDriveName]/Users/Username/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary/Masters/Year/Month/Day/Time

To open Photos Library.photoslibrary, you have to right-click or control-click on it and choose "Show Package Contents." Open Masters and find your files.

Like Lightroom, Photos is a database-based app, so it does not destroy your originals. It just hides them, then exports changed versions of them.

It doesn’t have to be this way though. I keep all my photos in the original file I put them in on external hard drives. The same thing with iTunes music files. In essence I don’t let “photos” or iTunes manage my files.
