This shot taken on Folly Beach pier around Charleston SC,since fishing was a little slow. Is this a "so what" shot or how to improve or a great shot for the round file?

It doesn’t tell a story. There’s no location or anything to relate it to. I might have shot it because I like shooting waves, but it doesn’t really do anything for me.

I think it is a great shot. You have a point of interest with the sun glow, the breaking wave completely fills the frame. Your whites are white and you have a natural colour to the water.
No idea what the caption would be....
have fun
It does create a nice leading line for your eye to follow. But, as Cam points out it doesn't lead you anywhere, so no story. So, unless is falls under fine art it just starts to be a wave.
thanks for your replies, i was kinda thinking the same as well. I could photoshop a skull just under the break to generate interest?
I find with coastal shots, and the many waves I have taken pictures of, changing perspective and getting lower to the water so you get the coastline in the shot really helps with the story that others have mentioned. Especially if you have a storm, sunset, sunrise, etc... to accent the shot.
But all in all a great photo of waves.
Actually, I like this shot a lot. The line is nice, and the color in the upper half make it unique and drew my eye along the line of the wave.
Why does every photo have to have "a story," anyway.
thank you for your look see.
I like this a lot. The light on the crest is very pretty and water in motion is always interesting. I can hear the sound of surf!
“Do YOU like it?” is the only question that matters.
I had put my camera down for several years, my son is the professional, following other pursuits and just recently looked at my bag again and thought... Been reintroducing myself and finding out i retained little knowledge so get to start over again. Short response, I think i like it but when son critiques thinking i should go back to my Brownie Instamatic, lol. Gonna post another photo soon for comments. I have thick skin so enjoy the criticism when needed.
I agree with liamrowan. nice shot. who needs a story?
why can't a picture just be a moment of simple joy ?
Too damn many "photographers" feel a need to tell a story.
I see many photographers snap their picture, then head over to the computer to PP ,sometime to the piont of making shots look like cartoons,or increasing dinamic range to the poinr of making the shot look too perfect. The tonal range of every aspect in the shot just "perfectly balanced".
Since when is the real world perfectly balanced?
I shoot guns, and I shoot with both eyes open. I shoot cameras,I often shoot with both eyes open.
I shoot mirrorless, and with both eyes open, I can balance in camera what I see with my other eye.
therefore, what i end up with is a pretty darn close rendition of what the subject actually looked like.
I don't understand this need to computer manipulate every shot to make every element within the shot absolutely perfect. Why do some feel the need to "improve" upon what the good Lord put before us?
Personaly, I think God does a real good job. Who am I to say" well God, you know, with a little tweeking here, and a bit of extra highlight there, I think you may have something". I don't know, sometime I think this PP gets a bit out of hand. Does every shot realy have to be manipulated ?
Does every shot need to tell a story or have some deeper meaning beyond what was presented to us at any given time? Does every photo have to perfectly balanced tonaly?
I've got some seriously thick skin, so bring it on.
