One of my first nudes

I was asked by my photography teacher 4 years ago to add nude to my portfolio … this was my first attempt that I got so wrong... but the learning curve began..

Great image Joe. Lighting is excellent as well as the composition. Black and White adds to the beauty of the image.

Sorry for the late reply was at a family wedding all yesterday.... First was my choice of model although she is gorgeous she wasn't the best choice for this pose and I ended up doing a bit of surgery in post processing to give her hips.... She was better suited to glamour modelling and my remit was to shoot fine art....Glamour models have a tendency to look through the lens more whereas fine art models will give you more emotional poses looking away..... You have to be very careful when looking through a models portfolio and don't just think she has a lovely body and thinking she will mouild to your project... Hope that helps....
I wasn't trying to convey a message this was purely a visual effort on what looked good..

Thanks for the advice. Very helpful. Never considered that about the two types of models.
I see that this is a glamour shot now, but just looking at the image I would never know your intent was more for fine art. It still looks good and is a fine image in my opinion.

Great first effort! The pose is good, nice lighting to evenly illuminate the models features with no harsh shadows and great concept. However, if you could darken the left side slightly to match the background on the right and open the shadow of the leg and area above the breasts and under the head slightly. Brightening the face would also draw more attention to that area and less to the bright highlight of the material (could tone down).
This image is super as B&W!

Great first effort! The pose is good, nice lighting to evenly illuminate the models features with no harsh shadows and great concept. However, if you could darken the left side slightly to match the background on the right and open the shadow of the leg and area above the breasts and under the head slightly. I would give up a kidney to photograph with this model. :-) Personally, she fulfills my requirements, great face, nicely proportioned body with full breasts and appears to pose well. She is the model type of Peter Gowland and Andre De Dienes, a couple of my favorite photographers.
My philosophy is to shoot with a model in as many styles as possible, both glamour and fine art.
With any given pose and prop and/or with clothing, I begin with full-lengths, then 3/4 and finally to head and shoulders using my standard lighting. With fine art, I will adjust the lights for more contrast and shadows and with more sculptural poses of the "masters" of olden times. A 2-3 hr session might see several thousand images with many poses and variations: eyes open, eyes closed, different hand or leg positions, etc, etc. YMMV!

Joe, upon a second look, this time not using my cell phone, this is really a lovely photograph. The tonal range is quite lovely. I'm not sure what you think you got wrong. I agree with your statement about the learning curve. If one is substantially sincere the learning curve continues on forever.
