Survey question....

Photography is your passion,,, OK so you have invested a lot of money,,, and your family has survived many GAS attacks,,, you have several camera bodies and a trio of “L” glass,,, you shoot a thousand shots a month, and spend hours in post processing.... So now what? What is the final goal? Where do all of these images go? Inquiring minds want to know.

Why do they have to "go" anywhere?

Some on the wall...some in albums....hundreds on the PC.

Golf is a long walk spoiled......Photography is a long walk enhanced and made memorable!

I shoot for the fun of it. I have a few of my pictures on the walls.

My friends and neighbors have my pictures hanging in their homes.

I did an album of sixty some pictures all taken in my development. I gave it to a woman who sees that it gets circulated.

I don't charge for anything because, as I said above, I do it for the fun.

Wow, you got that right. There are times when I just take my Arca Swiss 4x5, put it on a tripod, and just stand there next to it. I don't even have any film with me. People driving by will stop their cars and walk back to my position and admire my camera and tripod. After a few seconds they comment on what a great photographer I must be, get in their car and drive off.

Easy. My goal is to produce 10 images that drop my socks. And to do this before I leave this earth. I’ve been a photographer for a long time but I only have 2 that meet this criteria. Hoping I can get 8 more in the next 30 years or so.

We love to travel and our photography helps us see better. We always make photo wish lists in advance of our trips. Sometimes it works out and often the best pics surprise us. My wife and I now compete for whose pics we will print and put on our walls and our calendar for next year. We each put a few on Facebook. Photography as a hobby gives us a better experience planning, traveling and enjoying the pics afterwards.

I take a lot of pictures, but I don't spend hours post processing because I'd rather be out taking pictures than inside sitting in front of a computer.
Back when I was young, slim, trim and good looking I had visions of traveling the word as a professional photographer, but life had different ideas.
I have many photographs stored, but I have no illusions that any one will be interested in them or even take time to look at them.
So now, at 71, my goal is to enjoy myself taking pictures.

Your percentage of "kept" images reminds me of the time I shot photos of a Miss Kentucky contestant for the pageant magazine. Her family brought her to have photos made. It was a take photos on Friday and Saturday and show them on Sunday afternoon while they were in town. I think she was surprised that I took maybe 120-130 photos. When I called to arrange to meet the family, her dad asked how many photos I had taken he asked if I got any good ones. I told him I thought there were 10 they could use, he was disappointed. When they looked at them, there were only 10 or so they didn't like. It's all about how we see things and critique ourselves. Best wishes.

I like what you have said. To create even a few truly spectacular images would make it all worthwhile.

I post here; I belong to a camera club; I enter some shows; I enjoy my own work. That’s it.
I’d like to think that others will enjoy my work after the inevitable, but my ego knows better.

Most are stored on various hard drives. Many are stored on Google Photos, as well. I use that site to share with individuals and groups. Like many other activities, it's the journey, not the destination that's important. The fun is the gear and the photography.

Simplest response is to ask your wife what she intends to do with your “stuff” after you are gone. It won’t matter what we think.
I know what mine tells me now.

Seems most of my photos are of youth sports, prom photos, portraits etc. Post or deliver at no charge. My goal is to share with the family If I get a donation I give it to charity. Gives me an opportunity to learn, use my equipment with no pressure on getting great results. I usually do. I am 71 and retired.

Good idea using your images as gifts. I think I’ll try it. Thank you.
