Survey question....

Photography is your passion,,, OK so you have invested a lot of money,,, and your family has survived many GAS attacks,,, you have several camera bodies and a trio of “L” glass,,, you shoot a thousand shots a month, and spend hours in post processing.... So now what? What is the final goal? Where do all of these images go? Inquiring minds want to know.

I really 'enjoy' my best photos. I enjoy the process of planning my shoots, taking the photos and developing my vision of the image in PP. But I also continue to enjoy them after I am finished.

I put my favorite images on a slide-show screensaver on my computer at work. I have two monitors but mostly use only one of them so the other one displays my rotating 'gallery'. Seeing flashes of my favorite places and times lifts my spirits and keeps me in good humor. Sometimes I will pause and say to myself - 'I took that'. We all need a good dose of self-satisfaction from time to time.

I also put a photo book together for Christmas of my best shots of the year and include a good sprinkling of family event pics. These books get great responses as they are passed around the family gatherings and help to justify the time and expense spent on photography. Photo books like these can be of enormous benefit in dealing with cases of Alzheimers or senile dementia, although, please God, we will be spared those afflictions.

I also have a 'gallery' of framed shots with a local theme in the hallway. These get switched out on a regular basis as I take better shots. Occasionally, I take a couple of 'hangers' that are worthy of a place of their own. In fact, I am heading out to the framers this morning with three 20x30 prints destined for the Livingroom wall.

As for the thousands of files on various hard drives and memory cards - probably headed for the trash after I'm gone. Hopefully the kids will have the good sense to put my gear on Ebay.

Most of my photos are of people singing or the musicians playing. I get satisfaction at their joy at seeing them. My goal, enjoy their music and have them enjoy the photos of themselves.

Wow, you got that right. There are times when I just take my Arca Swiss 4x5, put it on a tripod, and just stand there next to it. I don't even have any film with me. People driving by will stop their cars and walk back to my position and admire my camera and tripod. After a few seconds they comment on what a great photographer I must be, get in their car and drive off.

What’s the point of our photography? Everything seems absurd until someone admires your equipment.

Sounds like you are in a slump. It happens to all of us. There are different ways out.

My final goal is to keep improving.

My images go on my hard drive first then I edit (rate, cut, pick). I share some of them with friends via my sharing site. I have a few printed and mounted and give them as gifts to friends and family. Occasionally I will post one on a photography site.

Shooting video with my dslr has raised the hobby to another level. A picture is a moment in time. A video is a slice of time (literally thousands of pictures) with action, sound and special requirements for audio and lighting and focus and editing.

If I get a still pic I really think is interesting I post it online in a couple of forums and on facebook. When I finish a new video, I post it on youtube with a link on facebook.

I have walked around with a film camera and trash film loaded. No intention of developing the film. Go thru the motions for the motions' sake.
A pleasant day of no pressure shooting.

I don't have a rule. Sometimes I adjust what could've been
done in the lab. I keep my photos to myself and family (wife
and son).
I do post some here, but for the past months I've been under
lots of stress and feel not wanting to photograph. I must be very
relaxed to get my shots.

When I began learning photography, my photos were primarily taken to fulfill class assignments which were critiqued, the feedback used to help build my skill levels. Later, I joined a good camera club. I began shooting for entries in the monthly competitions. As I became more successful at the club level, I began entering regional, state, and even a few national competitions. This eventually led me to joining the art festival circuit (only recently curtailed) with the intent of sharing and selling my images to the public. What began as an interest, grew into a hobby, which then became a valued means of personal artist expression, and finally a way of sharing my passion with the public.

I started with pretty basic equipment, which I upgraded as my skills improved. I did, however, avoid GAS. (My camera bodies and lenses are all a few models behind the latest versions, but quite adequate for the results I’ve needed). I did spend a fair amount of money, mostly for my festival setup (tent, trailer, display panels, framing equipment, large format printer). “Developing my catalog” gave me the perfect excuse to travel the west on week long photo excursions a few times a year. I suppose it would be fair to say that photography was an acquired passion which eventually became “what I do”.

Photos are a record of many things. I throw some to the trash, keep the rest, and print some of the best for myself, friends, and family.

Thank you. My father used to say that there are no bad times
that won't pass nor good times that will last forever.
I've seen darker days and I am persistent.

It's all about the fun (that's the goal), the images do not need to go anywhere!

I bought one camera in the past 5 years and that was because film/processing was getting expensive and difficult to find. I bought only the camera body and no lens. I used all the lenses from the film camera. I shot 5000 shots in 5 years which is about the same if I shot film. I do not suffer from GAS. My family has no financial hardship.
