These Monk "Parakeets" ( which are really a small Parrot!) have been teasing me for several years now ! They are quite elusive EXCEPT when the Seagrapes ripen - and it has taken me awhile to figure this out ! They are native to Central and South America but like it here in Florida also !
What makes this image special for me is it shows one with complete body showing in their prime habitat eating their favorite food !
This image is full frame - no crop. Canon 80D and Canon 400 prime from monopod. I wanted as low as possible ISO commensurate with good judgement for blurring - as the bird was under tree canopy mostly - 1/350, f5.6, 500 ISO. As always, shot as JPEG and PP in Elements 9 on my XP computer and pixel reduced here for viewing.

Monk Parrots are not from Central America. They are from the subtropical and temperate zones of Argentina and some of the surrounding areas. Their ability to flourish in temperate zones have allowed them establish feral populations in Europe and North America. I believe there is a feral population in Mexico. I recall there is a population in New York. They are the only parrots to build a nest of sticks. Most parrots build nests in hollow trees.
The term parakeet refers to parrots with long tails.
Quaker parrots belong to the subfamily Arinae (Neotropical parrots) Amazon Parrots and Macaws are also in this sub family.
My buddy Teddy the Yellow Naped Amazon has carefully proof read this for accuracy.

I can appreciate if the subject is rare but there are too many problems in this photo.
