I know someone that has a used D-5 and a no VR 24-70 2.8 for sale for 3995.00
Serial number starts with "6" pointing to a European model and the lens does not have "US" at the start
both according to my unskilled research, points to grey market items.
The guy had purchased them for a girlfriend who was going to start shooting weddings but they broke up and he wants rid of them
So questions are....
Am I correct about these being grey marked items ??
and it seems to me this is a heck of a buy grey market or not....
I shoot sports several times a year for AP and this would be perfect for me.
please help with advice
Thank you
Larry

With the D6 coming in 2020 there's going to be many D5's (US) available I would imagine, mine included.... maybe.

It's not news to me. Why don't you do something really silly like entering "Nikon Grey Market Repair Policy" into an internet search site and see what pops up.

That's right, if you saw it on the internet it has to be true!

Yours is a Gray market, I would stay away.
I got mine off ebay, new, 0 shutter count, battery, camera only, no charger, US version, $3200. Got to keep looking, the deals are out there.

How could you know it is news to everyone?

Your snide and derisive remark is noted. It is also noted that your are wrong. Nikon USA will not repair any imported product into the USA and sold -- for any price.
Nikon USA website specifically says...'No Nikon Warranty (heading) Gray Market products may contain a limited warranty from the seller, but they are not covered by a Nikon USA warranty."
That being said, I spoke to Nikon USA just now. This is their warranty..no ifs, ands, or buts..
1. All Nikon products, distributed by Nikon USA, and sold by an authorized Nikon USA dealer, are covered by Nikon USA with a valid Proof of Purchase (POP)
Nikon warranties are not transferrable.
2. Nikon lenses, purchased outside of the USA, and from an authorized Nikon dealer -- for that region/area; with a POP; will be serviced by Nikon USA up until 1 year from POP, under the Nikon International Lens Warranty policy.
3. Nikon camera bodies, purchased outside of the USA, and from an authorized Nikon dealer -- for that region/area; with a POP; will be serviced by Nikon USA for a price. The cost to be determined by Nikon USA.
Special note in all cases: If you do not have a valid Proof of Purchase; Nikon USA will not provide any service. Nikon USA products purchased as gifts, from an authorized Nikon USA dealer, will be covered by Nikon USA warranties under specific conditions.

Why don't you print this out and think about different ways of expressing yourself without being so arrogant? Please don't answer..

I agree with you.
Why aren't you addressing this to the person that initiated the inappropriate comment?

The D6 is being kept well under wraps. Something MIGHT be up, like maybe a mirrorless, mirror hybrid or something like the Sony A99II with a translucent mirror, allowing it to act as a mirrorless with the advantages of mirrorless only with a mirror.
Life is interesting.

Nikon updated their "grey market repair" policy a couple of years ago. Nikon will repair most of their high end cameras, for a fee, and the D5 is as high as they currently go, regardless of who imported them into the USA. Nikon changed their policy because they were loosing sales to other manufacturers, like Canon, who do not restrict repairs based on importer. Also, there are non Nikon affiliated repair facilities that could care less where the camera came from. There is no warranty coverage for grey market. If it needs fixing there will be a fee.

That is incorrect information. Here’s a screenshot I took directly from the Nikon USA site just now.

Do I read this correctly. Imagine this scenario. Suppose as UK citizen who legally purchases a Nikon product here in the UK and subsequently moves, legally, the USA, and damage my Nikon camera I will be unable to get it repaired?
Equally suppose a US service person serving in the UK moves back home.

Now, that it is confirmed that Nikon USA will not fix this high end D5 camera. I personally would not buy it. Some say that the D5, can go in excess of 400,000 shutter clicks. Still, if I could afford to pay., I would not buy it for the price listed by the OP.

You can get it repaired by Nikon USA, but Nikon will charge you. Of course you have other repair options that may cost less.
Your place of residence makes no difference. It is the place of purchase.

My understanding is that, in your 1st case scenario, Nikon will repair it; but NOT in its US repair facility. The owner would have to send it to a Nikon overseas repair facility for repairs.

I have no idea about your second scenario since you did not state if the service person purchased a gray market unit.

For a definitive answer, I suggest you contact Nikon directly and pose each of your scenarios to a Nikon consumer service employee.
