I purchased Topaz AI Clear several months ago for around $60. It does a fantastic job with my noisy images. But I am a bit confused, because my understanding is that there is another program now that includes sharpening and cleaning up noise. Am I right? Not sure what it is called, but do I need this if I am happy with AI Clear? Is AI Clear outdated and the new program significantly better? Thank you.

So why do you have noisy images? Pushing your camera's ISO beyond it's useful range?

A.I. Clear was part of the Topaz Studio suite, Denoise A.I. replaced it some time back along with Topaz Denoise. I use Denoise A.I. on many images now, either using Denoise which will remove noise and can add sharpening, along with A.I. Clear which will sharpen and reduce noise.

I routinely shoot image at 12,800 on my 80D camera and can usually clean them up rather nicely in Denoise A.I. using either the clear function or sometimes using the Denoise/Sharpen function.

Do you need Denoise A.I.? Depends on you and your images - you can download a 30 day trial and experiment to see if you want to move for the difference.

Denoise A.I. Can be used stand alone or as a plugin from Lightroom/Photoshop.

It is really my goto plugin for most images anymore. While low ISO is still the goal for shooting, Denoise A.I. can do wonders for noisy shots as well as some sharpening.

It will output as a TIFF, JPG, PNG or DNG - if I use it from Photoshop I just create a layer for it and call it as a plugin, so Photoshop then outputs a PSD file of everything, from Lightroom, I go with TIFF as a stacked image created in Lightroom and call it as a plugin.

If you purchased CLEAR a few months ago, you should get free upgrade to AI DeNoise. (I did.) In the DeNoise product you can choose either DeNoise or Clear. Check your account with Topaz.

Look for free upgrades in the FAQs.

You can continue to use your copy of Clear, just don't uninstall it. Going to DeNoise does not replace your copy. There will be no further upgrades to the AI Clear product. And maybe no support.

TOPAZ has been real good with free upgrades. I purchased products years ago, and I'm getting the latest upgrades for no charge if there is a software path.

AI Denoise has a drop down so you can use the original AI Clear if you prefer. I find that AI Denoise does an excellent job and really improves most images. Sometimes I do switch off and use AI clear which is also excellent.

Oh, Sorry, I forgot to STRESS "beyond it's useful range?" I would not know, I don't get noisy images unless I very rarely I use the "wrong" camera for the job. My 16MP does fine at higher ISO's my 24MP does not. So I don't have images to de-noise. I don't follow the leader and try handheld shooting at ISO 3,200 with an f/5.6 lens, I'll shoot at ISO 400 with a f/2.8 with a tripod. Some people create their own problems or extra work.

Wow, and everybody should do what you do. So full of yourself as always. People shoot different things and have different experiences and not everybody can switch cameras at will. Shoot what you shoot and if you have helpful advice, advise. Just being critical to be critical serves nothing but your overinflated ego.
