again, the problem I was having ( in looking for an easy program to do this ) was to take clips from videos and stitching the clips together

Ed,

You might want to take a look at Black Magic Design's DaVinci Resolve

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/

They have a free version.

I just use my Sony camcorder and edit in Imovie or iPhoto. I could never see the use of a photo camera to make videos. Period!

I used several industrial video cameras and camcorders over the years. I vastly prefer my Lumix GH4 Micro 4/3 MILCs to all of them. Since I record equal amounts of stills and video, only a hybrid camera makes sense. Lumix GH cameras are designed as balanced hybrids.

I use iMovie on my iMac and OpenShot on Fedora.

straying off the beaten path, a little ( people do post youtube links, once in a while ); since many, or most of us have a dslr that shoots video, I wonder how many shoot an occasional ( say10 - 60 sec ) video with their dslrs ( such as fireworks, wildlife, etc. )? does anyone know a really easy software to use to take clips from these videos and stitch them together to make a compilations ?

Thanks emmons267 I learnt something today thanks to your link to the Adobe tutorial on video editing. I use Corel's Video Studio Ultimate 2019 but Photoshop looks a lot easier to use.

I've experimented with a few video editing programs, and the one I think has the easiest learning curve while still delivering a lot of capability is Movavi video suite. You can trial it for free. https://www.movavi.com/suite

I have PowerDirector and Pinnacle Studio version 14 & 20. Have used all three but find Pinnacle version 14 has all the power I need with out extra learning curve.
