I was quite surprised that my Quick Time player can edit video files. I have a mac but my understanding is that Quick Time player also is available on a PC.

So you might try that, it allows you to cut videos and join them.

straying off the beaten path, a little ( people do post youtube links, once in a while ); since many, or most of us have a dslr that shoots video, I wonder how many shoot an occasional ( say10 - 60 sec ) video with their dslrs ( such as fireworks, wildlife, etc. )? does anyone know a really easy software to use to take clips from these videos and stitch them together to make a compilations ?

Photoshop can do that.

Although I use Power Director the Photo App in Windows 10 will do what you want to do. Here is information...

I trim my trail camera videos in windows 10 and then stitch them in movieCreator, which is free (for the version with ads) and fast and easy

problem is, I may just want to cut out sections of videos and clip them together; haven't found an easy way, yet

You can actually do basic video editing in Lightroom, if you have the program.

I have found Wondershare by Filmora to be very easy to use for editing video. Does all I need for quick and easy editing.

Just my take, Adobe Premiere Elements is a great program and it will run on both a PC and a Mac. I've used it before, all you do is drag and drop for a quick, slap it together video. I have not used Windows Movie Maker, but it may also work for you. Just a word of advice keep your video to 4 minutes or less. Anything longer and people will loose interest real fast. I edited a video on a late 2008 Mac book with 4gb of RAM and a 128 gb drive. This included transition, music, narration and tittles. It was a special request from my sister for a fund raiser. I know that some Hoggers tend to get lost in the weeds, don't worry, just go with what you've got and press forward. Beware, you just might get hooked and want to go beyond the simple basics. Have fun and enjoy the experience!!

again, the problem I was having ( in looking for an easy program to do this ) was to take clips from videos and stitching the clips together

Any video editor will do this in a few minutes. You don't need to learn all the stuff you don't want to do. Any video editor starts with putting your clips on a time line which lets you cut and paste the clips in any order you want. It's like a word processor for video clips. Any video editor does that process and if that is all you want to do it can end there. No video editor is any more easy or difficult to do that basic task, just like no word processor is more easy or difficult if all you want to do is put a few sentences together and use cut and paste to move them around.

Yes, you can. I've done a little video editing with LR too. Very easy but it seems to have some glitches when you try "playback". I don't know why....

I just use my Sony camcorder and edit in Imovie or iPhoto. I could never see the use of a photo camera to make videos. Period!
