Beautiful shots. I was stationed at K.I. Sawyer AFB, Mi (approx 20 miles from Marquette, now closed) for 18 months in the early 60's. All I remember was a solid week of 47 below zero. Glad you found some of the beauty. Thanks for posting.

I like your captures, but is the water in your first couple of shots really brown?

Thank you. Per Wikipedia, The water is notably brown in color from the tannins leached from the cedar swamps which the river drains. This is from a description for Tahquamenon Falls.

wow, a beautiful set of images.

Do you know what leads to the water having the brownish tint like in image #1? I am just finishing a trip in WI and photographing rivers and waterfalls here, I have noticed a similar coloration of the water.

A beautiful set of images. The touch that you add in processing just adds to their beauty.

Thank you. The brownish tint is due to tannins in the water.

Your photos are beautiful. Might you have any of the falls or rapids where the water has not been obliviated?

Thank you. Here is a cell phone photo I took of Bond Falls. It has less silky looking water.

Blair Shaw, Jr. asked for more photos. These are from my recent trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I have added some new locations that I found to be worth the drive.

I just got back from Sidnaw (10/17) and the colors were spectacular. Solo trip so no photos, but the images are etched in my mind. Great shots. I've been to Pictured Rocks and Tahquamenon Falls. There is so much to see in the U.P.

Beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing. I have been to Michigan at least 3 times, when my family visited my cousins in Toledo, Ohio. I was unaware of an Upper Michigan then. Is there a ferry that takes you there, or do you take a small airplane?

I can understand your statement about a small plane or ferry being from California. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan connects with Northern Wisconsin and is very drivable. From Lower Michigan head north and drive across the Mackinac Bridge and you are in the U.P. The drive across the bridge is spectacular during good weather, and white knuckle in bad weather. I truly hope you can make the trip some time.
