I am looking to convert my gear to lever clamps, and discovered to my chagrin that my Markins and Arca-Swiss ball heads have their screw clamps permanently attached. So, i am looking for an RRS BH-55 or similar quality ball head that sports a lever clamp, either as original equipment or user-added. I would also like to purchase at least one RRS or Markins lever clamps for use with my other (convertible) ball heads.

Just ordered ( 2 ) Pergear TH3 Pro Ball Heads for my vintage tripod. Got both of these yesterday and couldn't be happier. One head will be used to support the camera while the other used with a tablet holder to support my tethered tablet. The ball heads were purchased on Amazon for less than $25.00. The great thing about this of course the quick release plate with level bubble. Once both ball heads have been secured to the tripod, I can slide and lock in place with a single twist/rotation of the knob and be up and running in no time.

I love the BH-55 w/lever clamp and a lever clamp on the tripod to switch from ball to gimbal. Keep in mind it's 2 pounds and pricey and there are some good alternatives to explore.

I thought I was clever when I bought an RRS lever clamp ball head, but then I discovered how such clamps stick out and have a habit of catching on my camera strap, clothing and other things in my immediate environment. I went back to RRS screw clamps.

Face the lever 180° to where you have it now. Been using Levers from RRS for a few years & not once has it gotten caught or open unexpectedly.

for a straight lever clamp, you might look at the 3 Legged Thing Switch Clamp. They run about $80ea and are very well built.

Although many would disagree, here's another vote for the screw clamps. Must be the 'old' within me! Best of luck.

I have an extra BH-55 with a lever clamp that I'd consider selling. Contact me with a PM on UHH.

I don't leave my camera strap on it either. If I ever feel it needs to be tethered, the L-bracket makes it easy.
