Olympus e-m5 Mark III this week?

I’ve seen many rumors popping up about a launch this week (coincident with 100- year anniversary of Olympus?). Apparently Amazon UK accidentally published a listing and then quickly pulled it. Looks like, with a “kit” lens of the excellent 14-150 II lens, the cost will be under $1,500. Apparently, 20 mp, added image stabilization, and other goodies are part of the new package.

I love the retro look of the Olympus OMD series cameras.

There is also some hype about the upcoming Olympus E-M10 Mark IV. To be released next year?

20 MP. Hmmm. Does this mean we will be seeing a 24MP M1 in the future?

Sony has already developed a 47 MP MFT sensor. They say it is for surveillance cameras but I am sure it could be modified for a MFT camera. Don't know about the noise from such a sensor as the pixels will be small and packed tightly together, but I am sure that Sony has already addressed these issues. If Olympus or Panasonic uses such a sensor and employs the high resolution scheme that is in Olympus cameras have (not sure about PANA) it would yield about a 180 MP image in RAW!

Offically out on October 17th. Supposedly the price release of the 150-400 f4.5 lens is to be given out. It appears that the E-M5 mkIII will become the "poor man's" E-M1 mkII. The E-M1 mkII will be replaced by the E-M1 mkIII early (?) next year. And Olympus is talking of releasing 2 or 3 lenses per year for the future. And where are they going with improvements for the E-M1X. It is already extremely far ahead of Canon and Nikon mirrorless. And don't think that Panasonic will be sitting back and watching all this. A good time for 4/3rds photographers.

I'm up for it. Be getting one when the Mk-IV
comes out ... as per my usual protocol ;-)

Yeah, let's hear it for the m43 format..
Been a fan of it since I picked up my first e-m1.
With this, hopefuly, new and increast interest in m43 cameras, will we now see some of the independant lens makers start to take us seriously, and increase their lens offerings to the point that we can have some BIG guns like the larger format shooters have. Let's see???? a 100-600mm on an olympus? ,in a compact size? Dude, sign me up.

I got an ad from my local camera store for the E-M5 Mk III with the 14-150 lens for $799.00. Since I had just bought the E-M1 Mk II with the 14-150 lens, I passed on it.

The "to be released next year" 150-400 f4.5 may fit your wishes. It has a built in 1.25X teleconverter and can be used with the new 2X teleconverter. This means we can cover 300-2000 handheld with one lens, estimated at about 16" X 4.5" dia. and about 4 to 5 pounds, and one 2X teleconverter. Try to find that in a Canon or Nikon!
