I upgraded to the new Mac operating system Catalina today. Took about one hour. I have noticed one glitch so far. I use bridge to import my images. Usually I can use the touch bar to increase the image size to full screen. Not anymore. When I push the touch bar the screen becomes a jumble of lines and colors. So I called Adobe and spoke with a CSR who told me he could not even share my screen to troubleshoot because Catalina has a glitch that prevents it. He said that Adobe and Apple were aware of the problems and were working on them. This is a cautionary tale for Mac users. Wait to upgrade to Catalina until some time has passed and the kinks are worked out.

Thanks for the tip. I only upgraded on my MacBook Pro. Lightroom works so far, but I haven't done a lot yet. I did print a few pictures from Lightroom and that worked.

I will wait to upgrade my iMac, which will be easy since it is in the shop!! I think I'll call Apple repair and request that they don't do me any favors by putting the newest OS on my machine!

I've gotten two warnings not to upgrade: Capture One and Red River Paper.

Not rushing to update either. Red River sent out the email and I read some reviews. Waiting.

Upgraded both iMac and MacBook Pro to Catalina. No problem as described with Adobe Bridge.
Only problem so far was accessing ON1 Raw 2019 plugins. When trying to use ON1 Resize with Photoshop it would not open with File>Auotomate>Resize, just got the wheel of death and had to force quit Photoshop cc. Tried it with the other options, same result.
Found on Safari this is a known problem at the moment, the work around was to run ON Raw in the background and can then access the plugins in Photoshop with no problems.

There are quite a few caveats here ...
Iff you have an SSD drive, Catalina will auto convert it to the APFS file system. No choice.
Quite a few Macs need a firmware update to read, or even recognize, an APFS drive.
Without that, the next boot means your SSD isn't recognized. Only boot drive = no boot.
The 64bit thang also includes drivers. Hard to update drivers for an unrecognized device.

A lot of other problems are traced to not-quite-finished security fixes and upgrades.
They'll work with Program A and/or B and/or C, for example. But not with all three running.
Turn of the century databases called it the "deadly embrace" issue.

But SIRI sounds a little prettier. Still gets confused with me vs the TV, tho.
"What! SIRI! Who are you talking to?" She's talking to the suddenly loud Toyota commercial. Again.

APFS evolved over several releases. MacOS 10.15 is about killing 32-bit apps, among other things. That will anger and inconvenience many users, EVEN THOUGH Apple has been warning us for years.

Lots of people forget how many glitches and gotchas new software can cause. Wait 3 months after each new OS release. Let the early adopters take the arrows in the back. Give third party developers and Apple time to work through the issues.

Software that is finished is abandoned in favor of new software that isn’t.

That was my plan when I learned that Catalina was coming and I got the "no 32-bit apps" warning. It sounds like it might be a long wait.

It’s not just Catalina. Mac or Windows, or something else, OS upgrades always take some “settling time.”

Friends don’t let friends be early adopters unless they’re aware of the risks.

Try a new OS if you have a “non-mission-critical” machine. Wait ‘til you know it works before you upgrade your most important computer(s).
