I took some photos on Saturday and one of the ladies face looks too fat. I know her and she doesn't really look that way.
I have a Canon T5, used an EF 28-80 at 28mm. ISO 400 5.6 100th sec. Do you folks think that it was the 28mm setting that made her look so fat or what else could it be?
tks Ed

A few days ago someone posted a set of pics taken with different so calked portrait lenses. Starting at 35mm and going up to 105 if memory serves me. Search back a few days. It was a great example of how much the focal length of the lense changes the face. Sorry I can't remember what day it was posted. No more than 3 to 5 days ago.

Without the photo, how can we tell? Might just be excessive calories.

Don't know what caused it, but my experience has taught me that when post processing images of people (portraits as well as just snap shots), when I'm done with everything else, ctrl + alt + I; change the width unit to percent, then enter somewhere around 96%. Hit OK and voila, the people look skinnier. Don't tell the subjects.

It is ... also the person.
When she "posed", she probably stood up straight. Leaned back a little. Tucked her chin.
Ask her to lean forward a little, and tilt her face up.
A;most always works better.

My apologies. What I was really thinking was Barrel Distortion. Is there a Lens Correction step in your menu?

The Lady has a fat face... what it is is what is. Lenses can change perspective but not reality. Pixlr Editor as part of their app. and has a tool that allows you to make changes and works very effectively. If an image is really bothersome, try that. Applications I've used are quite effective.

Agree with the Barrel Distortion. Usually that's done PP. Don't have much to go on with this thread. As a result, we're all over the place on it.

The previous post by is good advise about how to pose make that position the body and face. If one were to drop the chin that might tend to make the neck thicken up. Lot of good info sans comments about the subject being fat. I hope we will end up with a before and after picture to compare after you make these adjustments. Portraiture is not an easy art.
