Nice image thanks for sharing. I have a friend who does a float trip most every summer and one year floated down the green river. Not sure which section. Now I know what it looks like.

There are a number of 'sections' of the Green River that people float (raft or canoe). I've only done the section south from the town of Green River UT to the Confluence of the Green and the Colorado (and on a couple of those river trips have continued through Cataract Canyon [only once during a time of MAJOR --78,000 cfi!!!-- water flows/Class 4/5 rapids. WHEW! Or, O MY HECK!!!] and down to Hite). Though I'd been in other parts of Dinosaur Nat'l Monument before, I'd never seen this upper section of the Green, and it looked
really inviting. Before retiring, a friend had been a BLM 'Deso' (Desolation Canyon, the section downriver, between Jensen UT and Green River UT) River Ranger for a number of years. He's got stories of Thrills, Spills and Chills. Not unlike the stories I've got of Cataract Canyon....
Thanks for stirring up some good memories. What great pictures. Iβve been down Ledore Canyon many times, finishing at the takeout below Split Mountain. It is absolutely a delightful run with excellent rapids and serene camp sites. I have many, many fond memories of this area, but havenβt made the trip in 6-7 years because of the difficulty in getting a permit. Around 150 yrs ago, the rapids in Ledore are what dumped John Westley Powell and forced him to portage around most of the rapids heading down the Green to the Colorado. It is now one of the hardest permits to get, but is well worth the trip if the draw works out.

Hmmm. The Gates of Ladore! Heard that upper section --from Green River WY down to Split Mountain is a
super section of the Green. Maybe in my next lifetime..... I'll draw out a permit. Hope you can too, hopefully during
this lifetime.
Powell --that one-armed Civil War vet crazyperson (and the crazyerpesons who made up his crew)-- did his (their) share of scrambling around rapids when they weren't otherwise getting wet during his couple of trips. And the "boats" those guys ran with!!! Crikey! Bet he'd have
really liked having a couple of nice Moravia self-bailers....
Nice photo. Love the the colors.
