The subject matter is always a consideration when discussing photographic skills. I simply think that you are taking a personal afront to negative comments regarding ink and steel displayed on a model. To that point, Joel Peter Witkin may possess incredible photographic skills, but his subject matter will, more than likely, shy people away from discussing those skills due to the subject matter of a good deal of his photographs. If there is a subject matter within the photograph which many find distasteful, the skills of the photographer, and possibly the attractiveness of the photograph will tend to guide people away from the skills of the photographer and more towards the distracting factors displayed. So, you can argue all you wish with regard to what a person does with their body. The fact that if they do something out of the norm, that feature will be the focus of the discussion and overwhelm any photographic skills displayed.

When I see presentations here, my thoughts lean toward, the photographically aspects, e.g., lighting composition and those things applicable to photography. Much of the commentary relative to women with tattoos is that they do not belong in this setting. One's beliefs about a like or dislike for tattooed women lends nothing (MHO) to advancing photography skills.
