Help!! I cannot open any lrm files: catalogues, lrm classic exe.files etc. When i try to open these files all i get is a crash report form from adobe to submit to them and they will try to give me a fix for it. So far no reply from adobe. . Started to happen when i moved some lrm pictures from lrm to an external hard drive which was done using a recommended procedure. I have gotten a reply from a lightrm expert sho said it (crash) could be due to a graphics card(driver)problem. So from the amd site i downloaded an updated version of my old driver. No success here. Have windows 7. Went to my old standby fix of past computer problems and tried a system restore procedure back to oct. 3,but the restore failed to complete. Anyway i know their are a few ltrm techies on the uhh site who i hope can help me. Corrupted files hopefully not? Thanks!!
Be prepared for recommendations to upgrade to a supported OS version.

The recommended procedure you mention - what was it?
There is a SMALL possibility the crash is due to the graphics card .
A couple of trouble shooting steps to take:
Close Lightroom, Photoshop and other programs.
Right click on the LR shortcut (on the screen - not the quick shortcuts on the task bar)
Click on Properties
Choose "Open File Location" (button near the bottom of the the Shortcut page)
the path will be "computer > Local Disk (C) > Program files > Adobe > Adobe Lightroom Classic"
Highlighted should be "Lightroom.exe" Application and the size should read about 18,635 KB
If all is well this far, I would suggest you either call Adobe (be prepared for a long wait)
or
Disconnect the external drive
Sign out from Adobe > Uninstall Lightroom > shut the computer down, Boot up, Open the Creative Cloud app > sign in > install Lightroom.
If LR boots up correctly, examine the Library to check if everything is there.
If all is well, reconnect the external drive.
Adobe rarely if ever responds to a crash report, they just add your report to the thousands of others and a computer searches for common problems.
Another thing to note.
Shut down the computer should include unplugging it.
If it's a laptop remove the battery.
It's a good thing to do now and then anyhow.
Typically when a computer is powered down, some of the circuitry is still running. Removing power will do a true reset.
Thanks for your tip!! I think i will call the adobe help center and have them take over my computer remotely so they can diagnose the problem and possibly fix it. I will let all know how i made out. I will do this tomm.

I'm using Win7 in an 8 year old computer and it's running the latest version of LR Classic CC. No problems at all.
SO!! mine is not and i have been using windows 7 with lrm for a little over 10 yrs? Can you suggest a fix!!
Every time Adobe updates Lightroom it also changes the graphics card to using the cards memory for acceleration. Some cards do not like that and it causes LR to crash. Under preferences disable graphic acceleration

In the meantime what have you got to lose trying what; Linary, offered up?
I totally agree with a Chat session. Good suggestion and link, Bill.

I cannot open ltrm at all so i cannot get into preferences. Is this what you0 mean? or preferences under the graphic card settings? Thanks for the tip.

I have had a similar problem when I moved the lrcat file. I solved the problem as follows: Select any Raw file and click "open with LR". Rename the file to a unique name. Click OK (or Enter). LR should open. In the future LR will use this file for start up.
