Not my first camera, but my first 35, a Kodak Pony 135 if I recall correctly in ~1959. Just a reminiscence/nostalgia snapshot.

Is that an Oldsmobile in the background, about '55 or '56?

My first camera was a 1948 vintage Kodak Monitor (folding bellows) that took 620 film. Nice camera. I still have it. 620 film produced a 2-1/4 by 2-3/4" negative and made excellent B&W 8" by 10" prints. Panatomic-X (ASA 25) produced really sharp 11 by 14 prints.

By comparison the ASA of today normally shoot upwards of 1,000 and still get better IQ. Nostalgia is fine, but I'll take the new technology!

Yes - ISO 1000 will give much better results than film with an ASA of 400. I still have all my old darkroom gear but at nearly 80 years old I am not about to return to "wet chemistry".

Good memories, my 'first' was my dad's Argus C3.

Thanks everyone for looking. An old relative found the photo and sent it to me - I was just reminiscing. My first camera was a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye (which I still have), and I remember taking B&W time exposures of a lunar eclipse when I was about 7 (and they actually came out!).

Cheers

Interesting! My first was also the Hawkeye and then upgraded to the Kodak Pony 828 model. Bought the Hawkeye way back when for $7 in Yellowstone. Still see them at flea markets for guess what, $7.
