The best time to visit Costa Rica is from mid-December to April (the dry season). This peak tourist season boasts plenty of sunshine making it an ideal time for exploring rainforests and lounging on beaches. That said, the dry season is the most popular (and expensive) time to visit.

My wife & I went there a few years ago and took a boat trip up a canal in a rainforest.
I got this picture from the boat. I'm sure you will like the place.

We did a tour with Tropical Birding in February and it was a good time...really hot in lowlands but beautiful in the mountains. The guides were excellent. Be aware that they do birding tours, birding with a camera tours and photography tours. The link below offers an album from this adventure.

thanks for the tip; even spending countless time on Google searching subjects, such as birding photo workshops in Costa Rica, does not reveal all the workshop providers; UHHers continuously give me suggestions, and Tropical Birding might be the one I use. Thanks, again

I will be leaving SF in three weeks for a workshop in CR. I have been packed for two months and ready to go. I have booked the trip via Road Scholar and have traveled with them before. As a solo traveler I didn't get charged for a signal room.
Lets get going

The dry season in the rainforest areas is later in November to April. On the Pacific Coast, it may rain every day but rain showers are often confined to very late afternoon, so a lot of the day is dry. In some rainforest areas, going during the rainy season is not only, well, rainy, but also challenging for remote hikes because of rapidly rising streams, which can be dangerous unless you have advice. The Caribbean coast is a bit drier during the rainy season. Bottom line: Costa Rica does have a high tourist season (Nov-April) but it has an interior and two coasts and lots of vertical relief - so you need to know where you are going and the local microclimate. A magnificent place.

Be sure you know the differences between the types of tours they offer....we did a custom tour with our group. Highly recommend Pablo Cervantes and Ben Knoot.

We were there in late January, 2018 and the weather was perfect on the Pacific side of the peninsula. Went to Tortuguero national park on the Caribbean side and the weather was rainy and overcast most of the time. BUT the lighting was good enough for some spectacular photos. Remember, the National Park is a rain forest. Have fun!

I checked out your web site of CR. Beautiful work. Question..........it looked like most of your birds were still and not bif..........what lens did you use? I have a 150-600 but i'm not planning on taking it because it is hard to hand hold. The longest i'm taking is my 28-300mm...what do you think?
