I had two Canon Rebels that stopped functioning when the processor failed. Each was good only as an Assault Weapon - does this mean that a Rebel is like a smart phone, but larger???

The "best" camera is the camera you happen to have on you when the need arrives ...this picture was taken in a basement of a museum using what natural light was available using my Plus 1 cell phone as I left my K3 at home.. not expecting to take any pictures.. is it the "best" picture quality? Amazingly enough they make them so simple and intuitive that they come with a one or two page Get Started sheet and most everyone gets along just fine. Apple does have their Geniuses to help you out if you really want to dig deep into the ins and outs but 99% of the population seems to master them in a few minutes without all that rigmarole of 800 page instruction manuals. Wouldn't it be great if the "real" cameras were so intuitive.

I think in some respects the further up the food chain DSLRs are the easier they are to use. I may be the exception or just more experienced than those who use cameras with lots of icons and shooting modes...

I personally do not give a fig what you call these devices. I call it my cell phone that does the computing a lot better than those early computers that took up the whole room and a large one at that. It takes great photos, I can hear whom I am talking to, I get to set it to be my direction finder etc. I take the photos I want, call it art, call it a photo but it does what I want it to do. the merits or cons, I will deal with it and I am not going to get into a discussion with anybody else as I like what I do. People like to have the last word and I will have to admit it makes for very interesting reading.

Why does this seem to matter so much to so many? Do you feel duped into spending a ton of money on traditional gear? Do you feel threatened by phone cameras? Do they devalue your work? So again what is the purpose of having posts like this???
