Tropical storm Leslie surge being felt here

Seascape at dusk, ocean surge from tropical storm Leslie being felt here September 9, 2012. Quoddy Head State Park, Lubec, ME

Lying within the distant calm waters off the Gulf of Maine,...swelling ocean forces generate impressive displays of surf crashing into the bold coastline.

Locals here have been watching the track of tropical storms Leslie and Michael which follows not far behind. Spectacular vistas result along our shoreline when Atlantic storm systems advance toward New England and the Canadian Maritimes.
The next couple of days should provide a beautiful spectacle.

Nice photograph suitable for framing. Like the way you caught the waves breaking on the rocks

I like the waves too. Your exposure was slow enough to show the motion but quick enough to show the detail in the water/wave crests.

Beautiful photo! I like it very much. I'm heading to Lubec this weekend and hope to get some good shots there. We hope to do Campobello and then Saturday, the Lighthouse is suppose to be open to the public. We are very excited. Any suggestions on what else to see and do? We also want to go to Eastpost.

Thank you all for all your comments.

As much time as I spend at this place I somehow find new and interesting situations to explore. I have to say, hours slip by like minutes. It's definitely a labor of love,..but it is work.
Hiking and climbing around to gain new and interesting vantage points requires my utmost attention, I must constantly stay aware of potential hazards and difficulties as I move to and from vantage points,...boulders, slippery footing, rapid incoming tides, cliffs, over confidence, moving ledge to ledge, staying focused on my footing, cold temperatures, my energy level, hydration to just name a few.

Many visits I see no one else, due to remoteness and lack of visitors. Cell service is nonexistent in many areas, should I require assistance. Any under estimation or poor judgement on my part and I could be in serious trouble. At 68 I am fortunate to still be fairly agile and my energies still do me well. Between my ears,....I'm still that quick moving teenager I remember....Reality check,...I must be careful.

None of the above,...detracts from the enjoyment of photography, doing seascapes and landscapes, trying to apply old and new techniques and continue my learning and sharing with this great UHH group.
Just wanted to share a few hidden aspects of working here at Quoddy Head State Park and again say thank you.
