I have been doing a little bird photography in Florida for the past few winters. Here are some places you might add to your itinerary include:
1. Circle B Bar Reserve south east of Lakeland FL off Hwy 540 via Hwy 98
2. Orlando Wetlands near Christmas, FL (north and east of Ft Christmas Historic Park),
3. Black Point Wildlife Drive located northeast of Titusville, FL
4. Canaveral National Seashore (the road to/from Playalinda Beach)
5. Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands (a.k.a. Viera Wetlands) at west end of N. Wickham Road west of interstate highway I-95
6. Stick Marsh northwest of Fellsmere FL Take Hwy I-95 then west on Hwy 512 to Fellsmere then north on 507 to Fellsmere Grade Road (a sand/gravel road just before the big canal) which goes west to Stick Marsh at the end of the road. Should be roseate spoonbills nesting here.
On Mondays and Thursdays (9am to 4pm) one can also go by vehicle across the dam at Stick Marsh parking area then northward through the TM Goodwin Waterfowl Management Area.
7. Taylor Creek/Nubbins Slough on west side of Hwy 441 a few miles north of Okeechobee, FL
8. Road along west side of Lake Okeechobee (might see Northern crested caracara)
9. Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary south and west of Immokalee FL (south east of Ft Meyers and northeast of Naples FL)
10. Hwy 41 southeast from Naples becomes Hwy 90 (Tamiami Trail) then Hwy 94. I have no personal knowledge of this area but I did hear it was worth the time. Best to research this area further.

I do hope you get more good site suggestions from others as I feel I have only just scratched the surface so far. Florida is definitely a fascinating place worth exploring. Cheers Greg, a Canadian Snowbird

Holy cow. What a treasure of info you all have shared. This should be a sticky note on the top of the Bird in Flight forum.

Try the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine.

Also Wakodahatchee and Green Cay in Delray Beach Florida.

You can get very close to the birds in any of these three areas.

A 200mm lens with be good at the Alligator Farm at least a 400, but better with a 500m at the others.

Hi, Folks - a couple of friends from New Zealand would like to come to the US to photograph birds and other wildlife and scenery in or around Florida in March. I haven't done this myself, so I'm excited, too. Any suggestions for a week or ten-day trip?
Thank you!

If you & your friends make it to South Florida, check out Flamingo Gardens.

It is a diverse botanical garden and wildlife sanctuary. Check the website and see for yourself. It's a beautiful location and a worthy cause.

Do you shoot feral cats? That would help a lot. (uh oh, here it comes!)

The biggest threat to indigenous wildlife in the Everglades are constrictor reptiles; Boas & Pythons. We now have State sponsored hunts for them. They have decimated a wide variety of species, including our avian friends. Most, if not all, of our Feline species are endangered & protected.
