I have found that feeding feral cats includes feeding raccoons, possums, squirrels and wood rats. Leaving pet food outside is a bad idea in Florida.

The Circle B Bar in Polk county is also a wonderful place for birds. It is between Lakeland and Barstow.
Lots of trails and quite a variety of birds and, if you get lucky you might photograph the Bobcats that live there. And it is free

And some good opportunities for alligator photos also!

Grew up in NYC/Brooklyn and semi-retired in Citrus County (south of Ocala). I am planning photo sessions for 2020 and appreciate receiving your list of places to try.
Thanks

Feral cats here in CA where I am now also a problem. Barely any more birds, and Owls(no rats/mice).

Leaving it outside is a bad idea in Indiana also - probably a bad idea almost anywhere.

There are great birding places all over Florida. Palm Beach County has The Loxahatchee National Refuge, and within a 15 minute drive from there is the Green Cay Wetlands and The Wacodahatchee Wetlands. They are all in Boynton Beach, and great places to shoot wildlife. The locals are always happy to tell you about the many other places nearby. There are lots of great restaurants at nearby Delray Beach, Atlantic Blvd. where you can have a fun evening.

Near Orlando try the Lake Apopka Nature Drive for waterbirds and massive alligators.

This is an excellent spot. But it's only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

You need to find out how comfortable they will be driving on the right side of the road. Traffic in Florida is a mess in certain locations. Google is right on for most birding spots I have gone to which helps. Have you friends google search "ebird-Orlando" for example. That will give you the hot spots in that area. Watch out as one of the most popular is Lake Apopka Wild Life drive and that is only open Fri-Sun. For March I have found that the West Coast is a little better for catching the migrating birds. Traffic is terrible in Tampa?st Petersburg. However if get to the Treasure Coast {Clearwater area} there are many good places and Sarasota is just down the road about 1.5 hours which also is a hot spot. Miami area is great but traffic is even worst. Lakeland also has some good locations and is on the way from Orlando to Clearwater.

The Fort Myers area is very good. It’s also very close to the Everglades.

Where in FL? Wakodahatchee in Delray Beach is excellent with many photos "Hoggers" posted taken there. Also, the Everglades.

I spent about 2 minutes looking at reduced bird populations on Google. One article said about 1 bn. one said about 2 bn. and one said over 3 bn. I'm a skeptic when I hear all these catastrophic claims. I don't think anyone really knows how many birds there are now or were 50 years ago. I think we have some activists pulling numbers out of thin air.

I just read a couple of in-depth articles about the Great Barrier Reef corals dying off. Turns out this happens from time to time and the coral populations come back in a few years. IT's called coral bleaching. I can't say the bird population aren't dropping. I don't know. I just say I remain skeptical. There's too much activism being sold as science lately. /rant over.
