The 90d is on the compatible list though. You might run an update through creative cloud. https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html

It says Lightroom classic version 8.4 is needed. I'm running 8.4.1 after last week's update. Be worth a check under the help menu, system info.

I updated earlier and it said I was up to date. So I tried the card again and it still requires me to use the DNG converter. Why would this be? I'll just keep this card and keep changing the file name until I see that it works. But I do thank you for the help.

Did you open a technical support chat with Adobe?

Did you you try the Help Menu from inside LR? I don't have the subscription software, but we read about people using the chat feature of the subscription most every day.

I don't use lightroom. I checked Adobe updates again and I had some, even tho just a little bit ago it said I was up to date. So I started to the update and it has been sitting at 11% for the last hour. I have updated this dozens of time without this happening. What gives with that?

You've received multiple comments to your post indicating this is a new camera and a new compressed file type. You've received multiple comments indicating how to contact Adobe. You're having a problem with Adobe software. If you want a solution, wouldn't contacting Adobe directly be the most effective action?

In that case Photoshop opens directly in Adobe Camera Raw when you go to file open and choose a compatible raw file. That help chat is for all Adobe products.

I went back to the camera store to test the 90D and took a blank card to take a few pics. I took 10 and came back to download them and ran into a problem. The ext on the photos is CR3 and although they download (I guess can't see them). There is nothing in the photos. All of these tests were in RAW as that is all I shoot. I checked files from 2 days ago and all files end in CR2, and they all work fine in download. I am running the latest version of PS CC. What if anything can I do about this?

90D (and all other Canon using Digic 8 processor) produce the new CR3 RAW file format. Older software can't handle it.

You can download Canon's latest Digital Photo Pro to work with it. Or download and install Adobe's DNG converter.

Canon DSLR cameras using Digic 8 and CR3 include: EOS 90D, EOS 250D/Rebel SL3.

Canon mirrorless cameras using Digic 8 are: M50, EOS R, EOS RP, M6 Mark II, M200

Canon Powershot cameras using Digic 8: SX70, SX740 HS, G7 X Mark III, G5 X Mark II,

Basically, every new camera introduced in 2018 or 2019, with the exception of the Canon's most entry-level 2000D/Rebel T7 and 4000D (which still use ancient Digic 4 processor for some reason... they must have a huge back stock of those old processors, which were first intro'd in 2008).

I suspect the Digic 8 was needed to be able to shoot 4K video... and the CR3 file format came with it.

Chg canon is correct. Although Canon use CR2 and CR3 every camera uses a different version of the raw file. 70d, 80d, 90d, 5d etc. that is why you need to update you canon software every time you buy a newer camera.

I also have a new 90D and loaded the cr3 files to lightroom classic and had no problem. I am running the monthly subscription version of Lightroom classic. I am trying the new c-raw files but have not yet sent any to Lightroom classic.

If you download DPP I believe you need to enter a valid body serial number too... I just updated my version on a Mac the other day and it asked for a serial number even though I had an older version on that computer.

CR3 files are Canon's new RAW file format. My EOS RP's shoot RAW CR3 files. Use Canon's photo processing software. You can download the latest software from Canon's web site.

I had this problem when I bought my canon R which also has CR3 files. You will need to check that you have your computer fully updated with the latest software. I have a Mac and needed to update to Mojave version 10.14.6. The original Mohave was not able to read CR3 files. I'm not sure about Windows. You will however be able to view the files in Canons DPP software, I use DPP4.10.40. Hope this helps.
