I call it cellphonese. Initials in place of words to save the sender time, but wastes the receivers time trying to interpret them. It also hides unacceptable expletives.
Just seems to come natural for this generation. Hell I'm still trying to learn to type withoutspellcheck.
I think kids like txt-ing because it saves them the bother of having to spell properly. I hope kids in the US get taught spelling better than they do in the UK. We used to have to memorise stuff out of spelling books, but someone has decided that it would be too much for the poor wee souls.

I agree with you, I have to use that website so I can understand what my grand kids are talking about. Every time one of them sends me a message I have to ask if they are doing ok in school, and I'm never really sure.

Oh I am with you. As a 50+ member I appreciate my education and respond appropriately with it to texts from my kids. I have learned the basics of "textish" just so I can understand my kid's texts to me however. They probably get annoyed with my lengthy responses with everything actually typed out completely. I call that payback
