The original poster said "It's hard to take laptops seriously". That's a pretty silly general statement. I pointed out SOME of the pluses of laptops, along with pluses for desktops, as others have been doing.

What's YOUR concern?

I was expecting a reply to the OPs question, which one do you use the most, not an analysis.
That's all.

It would be nice if this forum had the ability to create polls, as I've seen on other sites. Anyway, here's my question. How many of you use a laptop as your main computer? I began with desktops, and although I also have laptops, it's hard for me to take a laptop seriously. It's the same with cameras. Unless it's a big, heavy DSLR, I can't take it seriously. I know I'm wrong on both counts, but since I began with the big stuff, that's what I tend to use.

So - desktop or laptop?

I have 3 custom desktops, 2 laptops for travel, 2 iPads for flying.

Desk top. I use my laptop to watch movies when I'm traveling.

Samsung 17" widescreen monitor, 8GB, I7, 1 TB hard drive laptop. 17" screen is plenty big. Have an old Sony Viao desktop at home, but is very outdated and has not been used in years. Have a 10" Samsung Android tablet also. Easy to transfer documents from the laptop to the tablet when I don't want to use the big one.

Agree with you on both items, i.e. desktop and DSLR. However, I presently use my high-speed laptop (32 gigs of RAM w/SSD primary HD , etc) on a big 27" screen but when it goes belly up, I'm back to desktop.

I use a laptop with a small (14") screen, so it's *really* a laptop. I use it while sitting on my recliner -- my laptop is perched on my lap while I work. I have a desktop 'puter with twin 21" screens but I haven't booted it in nearly 2 years.

Well, my laptop is seven years old, yes, my desktop IS much faster.

Time for a new one. The 7 year old laptop is a dinosaur by today's standards. Heck, my newer laptop is 3 years old and it's rapidly approaching antique status. The other one was top shelf 4 years ago and in its dock, which these days it never leaves, it plays desktop PC.

It's quite possible that the OP is very old school and is not up to date on newer technology. I agree, the hard to take seriously statement is silly and biased. There are laptop computers today that are capable of out performing even the best desktop machines.

2012 MacBook Pro is my principal computer. Travel with it. Attach a larger screen when at home. Don't have a desktop otherwise. Spouse has an iMac, MacBook, iPhone, Apple watch and she is usually online with something.

Why? It still works fine.

WOW.

A "poll" question was what is your main computer?
One word...
Laptop;
Desktop;
Both.

(Dissertations not required.)

Sorry Longshadow, I read to many entries and my answer pertained to why to have either and why I have both. Yes, I'm a tech nerd as my older job required knowledge of using high end PC's and Mac's. That's what I get for reading so much and not simply reading the question and answering right away. My Boo

I use both.
