1. I need super high resolution!
2. Can spend $3500.00 for a body only, but will go higher if necessary!
3. Nikon D850 no good for action!
4. Stay away from Canon!
5. Original request for the ONE best camera to get!
6. Everyone actually falling into the trap of thinking the OP can be helped with her dream!
7. Large self-portrait included in the OP.

This one was over the top to begin with, and you all are perpetuating it! Wow.

Well, without going medium format the highest scores are Sony A7Riv 98 points, Nikon Z7 98 points, Sony A7Rii 96 points and Panasonic S1R 95 points. The D850 comes in in 7th place at 91 points and is definitely a good camera but maybe not best after all. One may be the best camera. None may be the best camera. But it's an interesting and informative site to explore.

Maybe she should have stated best "35mm/DSLR".

[quote=Pistnbroke]D850 not good for action shots where did you read such rubbish. Its equivalent to the D500 with its focus tracking etc so just ignore what you read.Thom Hogan says its the best all round camera you can get. Because you have the wider field of view you can locate and track your images much easier then a DX camera Don't even think about M4/3 been there done that not at all happy with the picture quality. I always go grey with e-infinity and save a fortune. If you go D850 PM me and I will direct you to how to get it up to 9fps for about £120$. The tamron 100-400 is a great lens for it as is the Nikon 200-500 but heavy and not so close focusing or as wide. If you go for a 24-120 you will be ok with a new one but there is an older VR version, looks identical with 15 rather than 17 elements which is a pile of junk.[/quo

I am smart enough to know better than to get involved in a Nikon vs Canon debate, but I must say that the images you have posted here are absolutely beautiful. Your use of light is amazing.

If you have a "case full of them" lenses, just get the best camera body you can afford that uses them. Nikon/Canon arguments are like Ford/Chevrolet arguments with neither side giving in. Both make great bodies in about the same price points and you can't go wrong with either brand.

I have been searching for months for a high megapixel camera. I mainly shoot portraits and landscapes but with my 6 grandchildren growing older and into sports there may be some action photos once they stop picking the dandelion’s in right field.
I have looked at the Nikon D850 which states it is not good for action shots. I have also looked at the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II which had the option of relatively 50mp.
I was brought up living in the Finger Lakes region of NYS, specifically on Keuka Lake. I’m dying to get some great seasonal photos which I want to blow up onto canvas, basically around poster size and I don’t want to loose any resolution.
I would appreciate any recommendations. I’m so sick of reading camera reviews, I need some good solid advice from people who know what they are talking about and have used these models. Once again, an all around camera with a good assortment of lenses for what I want to use it for. Thank you all so much. PS. Would like to keep the price of the body only around $ 3,500. Willing to go higher if I must.

You have not tried the Olympus OM-D E-M1X, have you? It will do things that all other manufacturers have yet to be able to do. It has artificial intelligence which no other cameras have. It can actually identify objects that it will focus on regardless of a wire fence in between without your help. Yes, it is a 20mp camera. But the 80mp RAW / 50mp JPEG mode can be done handheld without a tripod. Plus, because of the 4/3rds format, most of the print formats require less cropping of the image. You should be able to print up to 30 X 40 prints if you shoot properly. With Pro Capture, you will only miss an action shot if you are terrible at determining that there is going to be a peak moment. Body cost? $3000 or less when on a bundling sale with some of the pro Olympus lenses (one can use Panasonic lenses on it too). Next year they will release the 150-400 f4.5 and a 500 lense. Both can be used with the 1.4X and 2.0X teleconverters and will allow for 2000mm, in 35mm angle of view, shooting handheld. I know if I had the E-M1X with the 12-100 f4 Pro IS lens, I could travel the world and the only shots missed would be the shots that I failed to take. The camera will not be the weak point of your shooting.

The important word is "explore", as I've emphasized; a potential user needs to 'go below the numbers', understand what they mean, what is being measured, before they can be much use.

Keep away from Canon. Although they have a bigger market share they don't have access to sony sensors and the quality is not quite there ...From what you say stick to FX I have both the D850 and D7200 ..Stick with the D850....( I have recently owned D800/D810/D850 D7100/D7200 so I got a rough idea) I would not call a D7200 a high MP camera

I have no idea what basis you state this complete misinformation. The Canons are extremely good and in some ways better than the Sony's. The 5DS is way beyond the capabilities of the Sony in terms of not only accurate color rendition but also in raw megapixel capability. Focus capture capability is superior with the Canon able to capture higher resolution using good glass. The downside is for glass of less than great sharpness, the image quality will reflect the shortcoming of the glass. Additionally, a high sensor pixel count is more likely to show motion blur. This was a difficult thing to learn when I first started using my 5DS.

The other trade-off of higher pixel count is a bit higher noise on the Canon so if sports are the emphasis then a 5D4 would be the more appropriate Canon application. The Nikon FX cameras will also have higher noise levels due to pixel size needed to cram more pixels into a sensor and the Canon crop sensors also exhibit this issue. Crop sensors of ANY manufacturer tend to be somewhat more noisy, relative to full frame.

So basically you are saying only based on your limited experience with a single manufacturer the OP should choose the same limitations you have imposed on yourself. Not a very good rational in my opinion. The Sony is quite capable as in the Canon. For high quality in high pixels count the undisputed leader is Canon. If you are staying with Nikon based on your argument alone, no wonder your screen name is what it is. I would be too if I locked myself into a losing strategy with my equipment (regardless of manufacturer)!!

I have a D850 and have no problems catching great images of my twin Grandsons playing baseball and soccer and at their always busy playtimes and riding their bikes and skating. I have had my D850 for a year now and feel it is the absolute best camera I have ever owned. I have been through 5 different Nikon SLRs and it is a by far the most capable. I noticed this morning that Nikon has a $500 off sale going on. There's you chance to own a great camera.

And many confuse "best" with most expensive. Those are the ones who exclusively buy a single manufacturer's products so they are mainly paying to have a name displayed on the product.

Personally, I want the best quality and won't pay dollars more just for some white paint on a product.
