Just received an extra battery for a Cannon 7D for a trip to Europe and the label on the box stated "LITHIUM ION BATTERIES FORBIDDEN FOR TRANSPORT ON PASSENGER AIRCRAFT" Would appreciate some clarification or just how do you take a camera with battery legally or safely on a trip on an aircraft, let alone your phone or watch- etc. Probably a dumb question and for that I apologize

Take the battery out of the box. End of problem.

You can scan UHH and easily determine how many excitable seniors on UHH were denied travel today, this week, this year due to their camera's batteries ...

What has the airline said?

Check with individual airlines for their specific rules and regulations regarding Camera Batteries. Not a dumb question, all Photographer's will be concerned.

Online; Type in TSA
Then where it allows you to ask a question;
Type: CAMERA BATTERIES
They basically say Batteries can not have more than, "100 Watt Hours", and not more than 2 batteries per passenger.
Check the TSA site for yourself, they may also have a phone # to call too.
Now airlines may have their own separate rules about Batteries too, check with your airline.

Not quite. The crux of the matter is that lithium ion batteries must not be transported in the cargo hold of passenger aircraft. That means they can't be in checked baggage. They are allowed in the passenger areas in your carry on bag or personal item. You may leave them in the camera or other electronic device, but spare batteries should be in a plastic carrier or have their contacts taped over so that they cannot be shorted by contact with a metal conductor.

I travel by air several times a year and there is a general list of prohibited items (such as Li ion batteries in checked bags) during your on line or kiosk check in. Most of the airlines I have flown also list them on their website.

Hey, I'm an excitable senior. I travel a lot and nobody's ever thrown me in the battery brig!

(Although I habitually spend time in cheese detention, because I obstinately insist on bringing Brie or Camembert on board, which apparently has the same consistency as Semtex…). Usually a few tastes to the TSA inspector sets me free on bail.

You just never know who you might meet when you travel, thought all the "Cheezey" people lived in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

No problem! I keep that link handy because you're not the first one to ask about batteries on aircraft.

You don't want to leave your camera equipment in the tender hands of airline baggage handlers anyway. Carry them on.

Seriously, carrying a small wad of Duct or Gaffer’s tape will make any battery secure to TSA standards. Deep breaths.

Taste cheese....really. I don't think that's part of their job description.
