very close to the house and there was no way we could pay a tree service to do it....it has been

Actually the photos are of a logging grapple. The 'Tines' you see open and surround the fallen log, close and then pick up one end of the log and the tractor then can skid it to wherever. It is just a working tool of the logging industry.
