I have accumulated a batch of various Epson ink cartridges and am interested in recycling them. Any suggestions? Staples will take them back for credit but over the years, I never received any credit so they are not a solution. Any help would be appreciated.

Unless Epson takes them back for refilling, the only recycle would be for plastic recovery. As there will always be a smidgen on left-over ink inside, the plastic would be graded as ‘contaminated’ and of limited value. Keeping them out of the landfill or incinerator is a worthy goal.

Office Depot/Office Max has a recycle program that gives credits towards future merchandise purchases. My wife and I have used them for years, and never had a problem with the credits. You should check back with Staples, as I feel their rebate program is similar. You may have had a one-time problem. Call their customer service and they can probably resolve the problem

When I was shopping at Staples, they accepted all but one brand for credit, and I got a credit slip every month or so. Our "dump" has gotten so particular with recycling, that I just throw them in the garbage now.

Believe you meant you are interested in reselling them, not just recycling or you wouldn't care if you got paid? Office Depot/Max is good place if one near you.

I hate being a downer but the recycling thing is often just a facade and they wind up in the landfill anyway. A couple of years ago China purchased much of our scrap plastic waste. It was bailed up and sent to China for recycling and used in various products. That stopped several years ago and this plastic scrap has been piling up since. Because sorting this is so expensive and the value is so low it is mostly a dead loss economically. So big cities have been saddled with ever increasing mountains of this recycled waste that no one wants. Economically, it is cheaper and easier to use virgin materials so this recycled scrap is less than worthless.

So some of the cities are now carting this scrap to landfills. First they pay lots of money to get it recycled, then they pay to haul it off to the landfill. This was evident here in our location when it was discovered that one of the local counties had been sending recycled scrap to the landfill. They still had all the recycle bins and dumpsters at the collection centers but then someone noticed that they were emptied into the same trucks that was hauling the landfill trash. The county officials admitted that they had NO buyers for the recycled materials at ANY price so they had no choice but to dispose of it in the landfill.

I figure I am saving tax dollars by skipping the recycle part and send it straight to the landfill in my regular trash.

I have an account with staples and turn in my old cartridges to the and get rewards, but the awards do expire so I use them quickly.

Check with your local recycling station. They would have better info for your area than you will receive here.

Incineration must be a better option than landfill. Pyrolysis would be even better.

with this crazy world one could imagine, when oil reserves are exhausted , landfill being excavated in search of raw materials

I had the same experience with Staples. Gladly accepted them, but no credit as promised

You actually very likely did receive credits for your cartridges, BUT what they don't tell you is that Staples.com will never actively notify you that they are in your REWARDS account, nor when they will expire. It's up to YOU to go to staples.com/rewards, input your sign-in information and your staples rewards number. At that point you will be told how much you have and when it will expire. In the past, I have called them on their phone number (1 (800) 333-3330), and complained about this method. Their records only go back just so far, and then they're not recallable, but they're likely to give you a one-time credit of $20.

At one time several stores accepted emptied carts except for Epson and of course most of them from my studio were indeed Epson. When I'd buy a new Mac, the seller would often give you a free Epson--just couldn't win!
