Fellow Hoggers,

A glorified hobbyist who needs a replacement for the window's photo's app. A good bit of what I do is a trip or event where batch processing isn't practical. You know, go on a trip, shoot 1200 pics, cull, edit and post 300.

I need your help. Is there a photo post processing software that works like windows photos app? Unfortunately, it seems the latest windows update has canceled the Enhance function. I've tried system repair, resetting the app, and deleting/re-downloading with no success. I liked it because it was easy to learn, quick, and effective.

This forced me to finally learn Luminar, which I bought a few months ago. If I was working on a few pics, or could batch process it might have worked for me. But having to reload the filters for each pic and the time it took to export photos drove me crazy. I started using Luminar 3 which at least had some basic edits available, but it seems to be taking forever (like 2018) to export photos.

Am I missing something? Doing something wrong? Any and all assistance is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

What kind of edits do you typically do?

Crop, straightening, sharpening and overall improvement via Enhance feature. Some exposure, brightening, darkening, and a little "color management ".

Faststone Image Viewer - Free, and lets you do those things. You can batch resize and maybe a few other things, but it's not a workflow software package like Lightroom, Capture One, DXO Photolab2, On1 Raw, etc.

That’s typically the same type of post processing I do. I use the freeware PhotoScape. I like it. It does all the processing you mention. The interface is intuitive (to me at least) and easy to work in. I have not really used other post processing software so can’t comment on that.

If being able to do all of that and a lot more is worth $10 a month to you then you may want to consider Lightroom/Photoshop.

I am not a LR expert, but frequently I will edit one image and then have several others similar to the first image. You can highlight the additional images and then click the Sync button and it will perform similar edits on each of the selected images.

I find this very useful particularly with I have used a high capture rate and have 10+ images captured in a single burst.

I'm looking at the latest Windows 10 upgrade, version 1903. The "Photos" app does all those things as did previous versions. You must be missing something.

Nadelewitz,

Is the 1903 a windows or Photos app version number?

Rehess,

Last time I tried to use GIMP, it had a ton of pop ups. I that still the case?

I've only ever used FastStone, I think it's brilliant and it does everything I've ever needed to do with my photography...the best thing is, no annual subscriptions and it's free. Only a 5 MB download.
