Spent the last 10 days elk hunting in the Centennial Mountains outside of Monida Mt. Elevation at camp was 6800 ft! Saw lots of Elk and herd lots of bugling but it just wasn't in the cards to harvest one this trip.
Saw lots of country, rode the horses all over the mountains and had a blast! Saw elk, bears, moose, mule deer, wolves, pine martins and so much more! Even saw a rainbow from above it...that was neat, watched a hawk chase off a Golden Eagle...wow...amazing, watched a wolf chase a calf elk....we yelled at the wolf and it stopped for a few seconds but don't think it was enough for the calf to get far enough away...so sad! Watched a bull chase a batch of cows up the ridge and a calf was left behind...watched him run around trying to find where his momma went....he finally figured out which ridge they went up and headed in that direction...thank goodness!
Come along with me!
Will be hunting at the tops of those mountains

It sure was a great trip George...thanks for commenting.
Ahh!...Elk camp. Those were the days. Hard work and a good time had by all. We used to hunt the combo Elk and Deer hunts for a better chance to connect with at least one. We didn't go home empty handed very often. And a freezer full of protein for the winter. I really miss it. Great photographs and great memories.
Excellent set, Cindy! Is it difficult to get the elk permit?

Glad I could bring back some memories! Hubby got a large elk last year so we had 130 pounds of hamburger from him...still have quite a bit in the freezer so we don't need the meat this year. He got within about 75 yards of a nice bull this trip but I just couldn't call him in any closer! Oh well...we still have till the end of November.

Thanks Mike....this area is a general hunting area so no special elk permit required, just the general hunting permit. Randy shots archery and I shot rifle, during archery season which is now - I cow call or bugle to try and get the elk in close enough for Randy to get a shot.....just didn't happen this trip!
