Put the Pelican case or whatever; I use Invicta Watch boxes that double lock and are waterproof! Basically a Pelican case with cut-outs for watches. I use one for first aid and Messenger bag for telephoto lenses. This way have camera equipment and my first Aid kit to do surgery, just no anesthesia.
**The point;! I definitely would put my equipment in a Pelican case & lock it up, then something else covering it . If can mail it. -Tracking and insurance obviously. Then whatever I could bring on board; like body and largest lenses , but do not know about airlines, because they want to see what’s inside? So if able bring package tape and box?
Just another opinion , but knew this right?
Airlines have been doing that for a while now, not because of small planes but because you bought the cheaper fares. Look at the cost of upgrading to the economy plus ticket.

Apparently you have not flown United affiliate United Express.
You can also send an insured package of equipment to the Post Office General delivery of the city you are landing in. They will hold it for pickup within 30 days, I believe. Good to check the post office rules on this. I did it for an extensive backpacking trip when I couldn't fly with everything we needed.
