Thanks for the laughs. The worst I have ever run across was in my second home. It had a mid-level family room with switches for the lights located on three levels. The switches were not wired correctly so I decided to correct it. It was an easy task, even though I did not have a continuity tester, because the code called for color coded wires, right? When I removed the first face plate I found that whoever wired the lights had his own code - all three wires were black. I was faced with trying every combination until I hit the right one. There were only 27 different possibilities but I was lucky, I hit the correct combination after only 16 trips up and down four flights of steps (the breaker box was in the basement).

Yeah, those 4-way circuits are a pain! Been there... My last house had one. Breaker box was outside, as far as possible away from the switch locations, down three flights of stairs.
Number 7 has to take the prize. I've done electrical work since I was in the Electrical Science class in high school. This monstrosity beats anything I've seen since then.
