Those are really neat! However, they can severely damage cut lumber and stands of timber.

Incredibly fast growing unique stuff. We have a similar, but different form of it that grows on the sides of trees just like small shelves. I was always going to snap some pictures of it, but haven't yet because it is 2+ miles from my home where I walk through the deep woods. If I get that done I will post the photos.

Dirty Harry's pics of ledge fungus on the tree reminded me of a photo I took of one when in Olympus N.P. a few years ago. This one looked eerie enough to play with with a bit of "editing".
