Anymore actually much easier to take your own photos than find a shop selling old school postcards.

As for ideas, here are 98 of them...

We spent a week in Sicily last October and had a wonderful time. The salt pans or Salines of Trapani on the Western tip was a photo highlight for me. Trapani is a nice easy paced city as well with lots of photo ops. Check out my post here:

I really enjoyed the old town in Cefalu also. Some of my Cefalu pics shown here: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-594418-1.html

Other places we enjoyed most: The town, Greek Amphitheater and coast at Taormina and the hilltop village of Castelmola towering above it; Mount Etna; Ortigia - the old part of Syracusa with its Jewish Quarter; Town of Nola; the unspoilt hilltop village of Petralia Soprana. The central plain via Enna is almost Tuscan,

Note that Catania and Palermo have some of the highest crime rates in Italy. We skirted past both cities but didn't go in to them.

Have fun and post pics when you get back.

The Greek ruins at Selinunte, Segesta and above all, the Valley of Temples in Agrigento. Monreale Cathedral (about 5 miles from Palermo), Siracusa, Erice, Taormina, the Villa Romana del Casale near Piazza Armerina, with its incredible Roman mosaics, the list is almost endless.

I live in Sicily 3 months out of every year in the town of Calatafimi, (where my father was born). I visited for the first time in 2005 and bought a house there in 2006. Have been there every year since. The town is just a few kilometers from Segesta and the intact Greek temple can be seen in the distance from the Castello in town. FrankR gave exactly the same advice I would have given so I am not going to repeat it. There are ruins and castellos in just about every town and my favorite truism is that Sicily is a Microcosm of Italy. Anything you see on the mainland you will also find in Sicily. An offbeat place you might was to see in Palermo are the catacombs complete with bodies in place. It seems the atmosphere is right for preservation and many look life like even though they are a hundred years old. Also a visit to any one of the four street markets in Palermo is well worth a few hours. Just be sure to haggle. If you should be near Trapani a visit to the mountain town of Erice, (you can drive up or take the funicular), is well worth it. Great restaurants there. There are so many "back door," (tip of the hat to Rick Steves), places to see that you could spend several months just touring the island. But as I said in the beginning Frankr's advice was spot on. I disagree with Repelo's asessment of Palermo's crime rate. I Spent three marvelous days wandering the streets of the old town there last November and never had a problem. Unless, you like to carry a lot of equipment I would limit myself to a point 'n' shoot camera of your choice. My favorite camera that has served me well is my trusty Nikon P900 with a small lightweight tripod or monopod. The lens is fixed but has a huge zoom range. I hope you find Sicily as much fun as I have over the past 13 years.

Catania has great ruins of old temples and
good things to get pics of. Just be careful.
You can also take ferry over to Pompei
for a day trip and lots of pics there.

If you are walking along and see three dimples on the ground then you have found the photographers
every other picture take HERE, and your photograph will look like. Look at a couple of idea books, then go off and create something really unique.

Extensive Greek temple and building ruins, some with Roman Empire add-ons (such as Taormina). They are spread around the island not proximate to each other, but in very good condition. Also Piazza Armarina, a Roman - era villa, with extensive mosaics floors. All protected under clear plastic roofing, so can visit even in inclement weather. Medieval hilltop towns such as Erice. You might be well advised to visit a Barnes & Noble and take a look at a Sicily tour book for a more complete preview of the many things to see and photograph. Safe travels! JimR
