New Hope is in Bucks County in East Pennsylvania, about as east as you can go in Pennsylvania. Since the folks in question are traveling from the West, New Hope would not be en route to Lancaster. Traveling from NJ is a different story.
You are correct. I always drove to Amish country, Hershey and New Hope via N.J. I missed the part where they were coming from Ohio.

My wife and I will be leaving Michigan on Sept 22 and heading to the Sight and Sounds theater in Lancaster. We will be travelling through Ohio and Pennsylvania before arriving in Lancaster. Can anyone provide me info on photo opportunities or things to see/do either in route or while in Lancaster County We will be on the road for approximately 10 days.
Thanks a bunch
I'm not sure which routes you will be taking, but if you get the chance, Gettysburg is an excellent place to spend the day and walk the battlefields and explore places like Devil's Den.
York also has quite a few "factory tours" that are educational and provide some pretty good photo opportunities.

Town of Intercourse, also get out on the back roads, Rt772 between intercourse andLititz is one to try.
In Lancaster County --- The Leola Produce Auction is interesting. Check the web. Brethren Church Road. Wednesday is pumpkin day. Colorful vegetables.
There are many covered bridges in Lancaster County. A web search can find a list and map with GPS coordinates.
The Mennonite Information Center on Lincoln Highway East has guides and information. The Lancaster County information Center on Greenfield Road off route 30 east of Lancaster is very helpful and has a picture book of covered bridges and many other helpful things..
Get the tourist map which has quilt shops and other places. Drive the back roads East of Lancaster around the town of Intercourse for farm scenes. Be sure to stop at some of the Ice Cream shops. You must eat Shoo Fly Pie.
Markets at Bird in Hand, Roots, Green Dragon, Lancaster Central Market, are interesting. Check the web for when they are open. Road side stands are picturesque. On Monday and Friday Clothes lines are interesting. I have a big collection.
Amish are sensitive because of religious convictions about photos that show faces or are too close.
Try to get to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. About an hour from Lancaster; it's a photographer's dream if you enjoy taking images of the beauty of flowers.
I just returned from a day in Lancaster. At the Kitchen Kettle Village in Intercourse, PA, we took the 55 minute buggy ride through the covered bridge. This is a great way to travel the back roads of Landcaster. And because the buggy is horse drawn, the ride is slow.
I recommend sitting at the very back of the buggy to get the most photography opportunities. I am still going through my photos, but a quick checks shows I captures some amazing shots while on the buggy ride.
Quixdraw, Penn's landing is a bit farther than they are going.

also, many Amish live in that area. Be very respectful of their beliefs while you are out with your camera.
If you have time, it is well worth the 50 miles to take in Gettysburg. I went back home to Western Mich. this pass summer and was glad to see my old dairy farm being farmed by the Amish (from around Lancaster). Small world.

More suggestions: Gettysburg--the battlefield and Museums I an easy drive from Lancaster. And Ephrata Cloister is on your route--- a worthy few hours--either a guided tour or a wander..... and astonishing part of very early Pennsylvania!----- in Ephrata, PA
Raised in Lancaster.
Suggest you go downtown and check out the farmers market. Saturday morning. Just off center square.
Also unique are the marble step ups to residences all through town. Might make interesting close up photography.
In the country are Amish farms, horse/buggy stuff and covered bridges galore.
Interesting place. Stop and enjoy it if you can.
Fallingwater, south east of Pittsburgh, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed home that is now on the UNESCO World Heritage List, would be another stop to consider.
