Thank you for your comment and suggestion, PixelStan. Much appreciated. I did crop a bit from the bottom and left side already and was reluctant to do much more. But, I will try another small crop from the bottom and have a look.

In addition I would crop a little more from the left side. The tree is not as important as the clouds.

As always, I sort of disagree with all of the above! When I first looked at the image my reaction was that it was out of balance, tipping to the left. I tried a virtual crop of the right hand side. That balanced the image, but it also took out some of the lovely clouds, which I think are integral to the image. I think the bush is important to the image, so I certainly wouldn't crop it out. Cotondog's crop that moves the barn over a tad but leaves in the clouds is better. Not perfect, but better.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment, AzPicLady. I also prefer the second cropped photo (3rd pic shown) which "moved" the barn to the right a tad.

The left side of the photo seems visually heavy. If the barn were farther from the trees ,or the right side were cropped, it might seem more balanced. Could you have moved the camera position to the right, thus providing visual separation and balance.

Thank you for your comment, photogeneralist. I appreciate your suggestion and am wondering if you happened to see the 3rd photo of this barn on the first page of this thread. I did a crop from the right side and the bottom.

Very nice. The clouds and the trees/bushes on the left really accent the barn. Well done.

Much appreciated, jpgto.

Thank you for your comment and suggestion, Bud. Much appreciated. I did crop a small bit from the left side (bushes). I'm afraid that if I took too much more from that side, it may not have the balance that I hoped to achieve with the 3rd photo of this barn on page 1 of this thread. But there is always more to play with.

Cotondog, I like the photo! I think that it has some real potential as a B&W image as well. Regarding the crop, a topic on which you have already received a lot of suggestions, I'll just give you mine. I think that the sky is an important element of the photo and so I would crop off a portion of the bottom as well as some (but not too much) of the bush on the left in order to bring the barn closer to obeying the rule of thirds. Just my 2 cents.

Thank you, GreyOwl, for your thoughtful suggestion. A number of others have also made this suggestion. On page one of this thread, I have posted 3 images of the barn. The third shows a crop where the bottom and right side have been cropped to be more in line with the rule of thirds. Hopefully that one works. Have a look and let me know. Thanks again.

Cotondog, I finally had the chance to go back and look at the three different images. I copied them all and pasted them side by side. I would have to say that I like the first crop (the second picture) the best, although it is not an easy choice. Pictures don't always have to follow the rule of thirds. I think this one is preferable to the first simply because the horizon does not divide the picture into two equal halves. I chose the second over the third because I prefer my main subject - the barn in this case - to be somewhat further away, unless I am focusing on the grain of the wood, or the texture, or something on the building that needs to be highlighted. I hope that you don't mind, but I copied the second image and converted it to B&W - actually to infrared first and then tweaked around a bit with it in PSP. Here is the result

Hey GreyOwl. I do not mind at all. In fact, I like what you have done, even though I am a guy who has a preference for colour. The second pic was also my favourite of the 3 posted. Thanks again for your feedback. Much appreciated.

Outstanding shot. Getting the right crop on that would win in a competition.
