Why when someone asks a simple question all too often this forum turns into a huge bitch session. Members sniping at each over inane comments when the answer could be stated with no more than three comments instead of eight plus pages of picking at each other. Get a life.
There is a lot of great information to be had on this site but too often it has to be found in between oneupmanship comments.

I get your point here. You can blame the anonymity of social media.
I am new to the Hog. And sometimes I don't understand what the original poster is asking. It could be because the Original Poster was vague. Then this one chimes in. And that one chimes in and another. Each poster giving their take on the topic. Then I notice there is a "dog-pile" effect. Often there is very harsh criticism. I personally don't do well with criticism. I prefer critique. There is a difference.
But the original poster should be cautious about those "other" types. It may be better to develop a thicker hide.
Maybe Not.
A short while back I posted a thread. I was jumped on for my suggestion. While another poster went in a diatribe and was criticizing me I was mentally replacing it as a critique and texted such. On another unrelated thread I posted a personal commentary. The Administrators dragged me "kicking and screaming" up to the Attic. It is clear to me that the Administrators must have some say-so on the Hog. But where do you draw the line without considering it as censorship?
So my friend post your thoughts, photos, critique, or just about anything else you wish. Be careful that you have picked the appropriate sub-forum. If you suffer
one-up-man-ship take it for what it is and move on. It may be best to ignore those "trolls." They need to get a life. Anonymity will breed contempt.
I hope I have responded appropriately.

A lot of members list their camera kit. A 'Private message' (like an email on here) will cut down the amount of irrelevant posts should your queries or problems be kit associated.
The chit chat forum has a lot of 'free association' with members talking about both 'off photography' topics as well as the broader 'interest in photography related minutia'. Personal views and attitudes are probably more tolerated here. Opinions always vary considerably,,,,,, such is life! - Chit chat is a catch all forum - explore the other forums - you may find a better response.
Advice can be blunt, or irrelevant to what you were hoping to receive. We are all anonymous as such....we really do not know who - is on here. Unlike in Real Life....Where we choose our friends....here you are stuck in the middle of strangers....It takes time to get to know who is worth reading and who you can safely pass over.
As a Photography Forum....No-one has ever suggested that they had found - or used regularly - any other open photography forum.....! NOT that it is a case of 'like it or lump it'......merely use it 'with a pinch of salt', Not everyone would be your best friend 'in real life'.
have fun,
This was not a personal issue but was my observation after a member asking a simple question about ISO and the responses covered eight plus pages of a lot of inane comments and trying to one-up-man-ship each other.
I am retired but have a very busy life aside from photography and don't have extra hours to be monitoring a forum to see if someone disagreed with my advice.
Volunteer to help the Homeless or some other activity might be a better use of your time.
This issue is certainly not unique to UHH but to many forums covering a range of different subjects.
Sorry but I just have this picture of individuals hunched over their computers waiting to ponce.
Tempers are at an all time high. Patience is at an all time low.
Otherwise, people would not be going into crowded establishments and shooting any and everyone in sight. People are going off the deep end and not resurfacing. The ones on here that need to vent are taking it out on other members because they know they are safe from retaliation. The safety from sitting behind your monitor and not having to face reality. It's sad but know that these are in the minority.
I am of the theory, that many, when presented with the opportunity to grow up, many eschew that paradigm and refuse to avail themselves...........
I will just have to start availing myself of the ignore setting.
I hate to nit pick because this is a great website for photo info and advise.
