That is a great idea, Retired CPO! Can do just about everything, but works well in Auto mode. Zooms out between 25mm and 100mm (35mm equivalent Field of View). Built-in Wifi and GPS. If UHH member “bpulv” gets her the red one, it will be easy to find (and hopefully harder to loose) /Ralph

When it comes to losing things, you don't know my wife! I will look at the camera when I go to the store.

My advice (seriously) is to chose a camera you will be happy with if your wife doesn’t like it or prefers her phone. (been there, done that, I now have a Fuji)

Which Fuji, price range and features? Would you recommend it?

Olympus TG-6. Excellent quality that will exceed expectations and has RAW capability . I use it for underwater video and stills and it compliments my EM-1 Mk2.

I give it (the TG) to my wife when she wants to take travel photos when I am not around.

I also recommend the OM-1 MkII and any of the pro level lenses. That system weaned me away from 45 years of Nikon with the image quality and lack of weight. Excellent system with 20.4 megapixel sensor.

Olympus has recently uploaded a firmware update that added lots of goodies.

If you're a Nikon family, it makes sense to stay Nikon. If the DSLR was too big / complicated, see if you can find a store to visit that has the following so your wife can handle and consider: Nikon COOLPIX B700, Nikon COOLPIX A900.

If the pocket size is a attractive, consider too the Canon G7X (or G9X) models.

My wife uses one of the Coolpixs (not sure which one) and I find the images not to be very good so I would avoid that. Here is a video that compares a couple of point and shoots that look interesting and would seem to fit the bill.

I suggest doing a little specification research including these recommendations then, after narrowing the choices to a manageable number, head off to a camera store with your wife, talk to the sales person if you’re fortunate enough to find one that’s objective and patient. Then, if all goes well, she’ll make a choice that will serve her well. Good luck. One last thought, if the sales person starts looking through you or over your shoulder, ask for someone else.

I bought my wife an X-E2 with the excellent 18-55 “kit” lens, but that was a couple of years ago. If I were doing it today, it would probably be an X-E3, or if I were buying it for myself, it would be an XT-2 (or 3). It is an excellent camera, and because of it’s light weight and first rate lens, it’s become my travel camera. The controls and menus are easy - very reminiscent of an SLR. Of course, it doesn't have the low light/high ISO performance of my FF Canon 5D4, but it’s very usable to ISO 6400. A friend of mine, who’s a working pro and shoots Nikon FF, had one and was always carrying it during off hours and recommended it to me, and it was an excellent recommendation. Since it appears to have become mine, I’m going to trade it up for an XT-2 and add a couple of Fuji’s excellent stabilized and weather sealed primes when they fit into my budget. I thought (and still think) the Fuji is an excellent system for an amateur looking for high quality without the weight and size of a conventional DSLR.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II with the 12-42 lens for $499 or with 12-42 and 40-150 lenses for $599. Watch the Rob Trek youtube videos on setting it up and you're ready for pretty much anything.

I have a Nikon A900. It fits in my pocket (I am not small, tho)
There's plenty of cameras like this, that'd fit most if not all your requirements and her purse.
Bridges are too big. Get something she wouldn't mind carrying all the time.

Thank you, but I think something above 20mp will be better when I need to edit her pictures.

You’re not going to find a camera with those specs for under $600. My Nikon D500 doesn’t have 24mp and it does fine. Unless she’s printing over 20x30 it’s way more than she needs. Something with a16-20mp 1” sensor would be fine. I would look at the Panasonic LUMIX line.

I will put the EM-1 MK2 on my list. Thank you Doug.
