I'm taking a photo class at a local Jr. College and our assignment was a Point of View study where the first shot would be an establishing shot at eye level. Photo #2 would be a birds eye view and photo #3 would be a worm's eye view. These are photos of my grandson and the first shot has my daughter with him. They all look better in download mode!

Your instructor is wise to lead his/her students away for a "normal" standing position...
Perspective angle can be (and often is) the greatest visual statement variable in an image equation...
