My research indicates Mitt Romney had a draft number of 300 and in the year he was eligible for the draft only those with draft numbers less than 196 were actually drafted. The point about his service is moot. He would not have been drafted. Should he have volunteered? Maybe, but did you?

Right off let me declare that I am an 'Obama man, 100%'.
That being stated, let me tell you what my opinion is of Mitt Romney, given the character of the man as I have seen him so far.

If Mitt had had a low number and was likely to be drafted, I believe he would have done what a lot of people did, talk to their father and get his opinion. And I also think his dad would have said, "Mitt, you just need to accept it and jump in with both feet" and I think he probably would have volunteered, gone on and done his duty and would be running on his war record now instead of his Bain Capitol record.

Yes I did volunteer. Joined the U.S. Navy in July, 1966. Actually got my draft notice into the Army while I was in Navy Boot Camp. Same time my father was in the Air Force stationed in Viet Nam.
As Sarge69 commented on a previous thread I was honorably discharged four years, one month and five days later.

Yes - I volunteered and joined the Navy in 1954 - stuck it out to 1964. While on recruiting duty found out what a normal family life was like and gave it up.

I am anti Obama - in my mind he is at best a socialist, at worst - ?. He promised a socialist society and is doing his best to make it so.

I thilnk it is hard to compare "then and now" as far as military service is concerned. I joined AF in 65, did 4 and then joined the TANG (Tennessee Air National Guard) and did another 8 with the 134th Air Refueling Group (KC97 aircraft) all over the world. Only reason I left before 20 was back then a company did not have to honor your national guard service and could fire you. I was a regional sales manager for an automotive aftermarket company (the manufacturer of Walker exhaust and Monroe shock absorbers) and they did not (at that time) welcome national guard participation.
Today would be a total different situation - Washington politicians dictating what war we are to participate in today? How about our own floundering country? We cannot continue to try to run the world when we cannot even straighten out a little local home situation here in the good ole USA. (God bless it)
Thanks to all of the patriots who are serving today in our military services-we appreciate your service!!!!

Jimmy Carter... Very high moral character, very few results. He's doomed to be a minor footnote in our country's history. It seems we can tolerate a few moral flaws if the individual can deliver results.

Nixon opened the door to China, reduced the tensions with Russia, ended the draft, and ended the Viet Nam War. Yet he is a disgraced President. Clinton had sex with an intern in the Oval Office. To be clear: he had sex with a young girl under his employ in the symbol of American freedom, the White House. What he did would have put you or I in jail for a long time. Clinton also removed the safeguards (Glass-Steagall) on the banks and Wall Street bringing us to were we are today.

What Romney did or would have done is of no concern. What will he do, we don't know. Obama was elected on what he promised to do. He got a Nobel prize based on his potential to do something good. What has he done? He promised us socialism and he is moving as fast as he can in that direction.

I keep hearing Obama is moving us to socialism. Can someone explain why they think this is true or are they just repeating talking points from Fox.
