Striking Tree/Flowers

I'm a sucker for unusual but colourful flowers. This is one of a few street verge trees near my home.
Each year about now, they start to bloom, & each time they do, I can't help myself in taking pics of them.
I like to show the full story of the tree whole, a pic of a cluster of bloom, then a close up of the bloom.
I never knew what it's name was until I asked an Asian lady, who thought it was a Chinese Plum tree.
It doesn't have fruit, just these beautiful flowers. Thought i'd share them around.

Reminds me of a tree we have in S. Fla.
We called it an Orchid tree. No fruit but the flowers looked similar to an orchid.

It’s a Hong Kong Orchid tree. I just planted 10 of them in my yard. Great tree!

I just did some Googling because I'd never seen one before. I'm thinking you're right... the "Purple Orchid Tree" ... Bauhinia. It's certainly gorgeous!
