Those are nice little cameras, but remember that Canon did not put any weatherproofing on them. It sounds like you live near Burbank, so rain is not usually your biggest issue, but it is still a good thing to know when looking at a new purchase.

What does Rain have to do with the SX-70?

& 2nd... I Live 20 Miles Away from Burbank, Calif, Just Outside the L.A. City Limits! I was Passing Through from the Valley (San Fernando Valley) on A Personal Matter, & Stopped by the Huge Shopping Center, Just East of Burbank Airport.

Wouldn't the Canon website be an easy way? Or even: google canon sx70

Remember too there's now a bridge camera section: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-134-1.html

As some UHH Posters have Said... they didn't Know that the Camera (SX-70) was Out? & it Quietly Came in on the Market a While Back.

Understand... Everything is More Focused on Camera Phones or D.S.L.R. Cameras on this Site (UHH), than the Bridge or Pocket Digitals & Very Little is Said on the Two Cameras (Bridge & Pocket Digital), & when the Daily Features for UHH is Posted, I Thoroughly go though the UHH Topics to see what Interest Me.

Also Understand as I Posted to Another UHH User that from Late Fall Last Year to around April of this Year, I had not Been on the UHH Site for Around 6 Months due to Other Matters, & Lost Track!

I could have Googled or went to Canons Website for Information on the SX-70, but I went here to UHH, to Check with Site Members on any Intelligence Regarding the SX-70, because UHH is Photography Central Clearing House for Photo Related Issues, & you have Pros, Amateurs, Advance Amateurs, & Some Reps that Work for Photo Related Companies, Like Canon, that are Members on this Site & Know This, or Give Advice to Other UHH Members.

& All I did was to ask a Question on the Site about this Camera (SX-70) when did it come Out, & I got my Answer!

This Past Monday I was at a Best Buy Store in Burbank, Calif & I Saw the Canon SX-70 Bridge Camera & does Anybody know when this Model came Out & what Kind of Features this Camera Has?

I Tried to Work the Model at the Store, but the Battery was Dead!

If there is a Link to find out more about the SX-70, or Reviews on this Model that Quietly came Out I'd also like to know also!

I had No Idea that the SX-70 was Out!

Don't know if this matters to you but the hotshoe has been removed from this model. I know prior models, the SX60/50 had one.

A lot of paranoid Nikon users here seem to take a plastic bag with them to protect a "Weather Resistant" camera, so I'm not sure what practical advantage comes from being WR in any case.

Well if I have to Use a Backup Powerful Flash, I bought a ONN Flash (Wal-Mart Brand), that I got for my Current SX-50, & I Use it for a SLAVE FLASH! That has a Flat Screw On Stand, so that the Flash can Operate Alone, or Hooked on a Tripod, Cause if I Hook it on the Hot Shoe of my SX-50, & Shoot an Indoor Photo, the Image comes Out Blurry, cause the Flash Sync Shutter Speed on the ONN Flash Comes Out at 1/20th, or Lower, the Standard Flash Sync Speed is Set at 1/60th, or 125/the, or Higher if you have a Good Hi-End Flash with Hi-End D.S.L.R.

& This was to Replace My Other Flash... a Sunpack DigiFlash 3000, which I Bought with the SX-50 in February 2014, in which that Flash Acts Up on my SX-50, the Flash Photos are Dark at Times, & Giving out Good Flash Sync Speed at 1/60th, or 125th, but for some Reason, 4 Months After when I got the Sunpack DigiFlash 3000, it Started Acting Up, & it Took Good Zoom Flash Photos at 92 Feet, by me Adjusting the Flash Head.

I Took it to Samy's Camera here in Culver City, Calif when I Bought it & the SX-50 at the Same Time in February 2014, & they Sent it Out to be Looked At, & Sent Me A Replacement Flash, but for Some Reason Like the 1st DigiFlash 3000 it Half Ass Fires & Those Flash Photos come Out Dark, Even if it's a Far Flash Zoom within the 92 Feet Range, Half Good... Half Dark!

I can't Figure Out why the DigiFlash 3000 is Acting Up on my SX-50?

The Auto Focus Light on the Flash (Sunpack) when you Take Photos in the Dark does Not Work, the Same with my ONN Flash with my SX-50.

My ONN Flash I Paid around $32.00 at Wal-Mart, & it May Not Work Well Attached on my Hot Shoe of my SX-50 cause of the Slow Flash Sync, It Serves as a BackUp Slave Light if I Use My Built In Flash on my SX-50, & I don't know why my Sunpack DigiFlash 3000 is Tripping? It Hasn't been Dropped or Abused!

If I Bought the SX-70, I'd be Pissed if Canon Decided to Leave Out the Hot Shoe on the SX-70, the Reason I bought the SX-50 in the 1st Place, was because of the Features, Including the Hot Shoe so I could Hook Up a More Powerful Flash, & Avoid Using the Built in Flash so it Wouldn't Cause Battery Drain when Using the SX-50.

& By Not Offering a Hot Shoe, on the SX-70, it Puts Major Flash Drain on the Built In Flash, Even if I Used a Slave Light with the Built In Flash.

Why Canon... Why?

I Seldom Use My Cameras in the Rain Unless I'm Inside, or Under an Umbrella, or A Covered Shelter, if I have to Shoot Something Major.

Do a side by side of the sx60is and the sx70is, not enough difference for me to sell my 60 and get the 70. It was rumored it to have a 100x zoom, did not happen. Love my 60, need no other camera. Please join the Bridge Camera Show Case, and post. I started with the sx5, then sx10, then sx40 and then the sx60.

SX-50 was the Best Selling of the SX Series, that's why I was Sold of its Features, the Hot Shot for Separate Flash, the Color Accent, & Color Swap, those 2 Features weren't Included on the SX-60, & Now the SX-70 Doesn't have a Hot Shoe for Separate Flash, & you have Battery Drain by Using the Built In Flash, & You have to buy a Slave Light for more Flash Power & Light.

I still use the SX50 in good light. They were selling them refurbished at one time for $150.00. I have filters worth more than that camera and my 600 EX-RT works fine on it. I still laugh as the Canon flash was worth 4 times the camera. They've gimped the SL3 now with no center pin on the hotshoe making it tough for 3rd party flashes.

We have a bridge camera section now if interested.

The Canon SX-70 is not weather-sealed.

As I stated, you live NEAR Burbank, so you don't have the same weather I do. I live near Orlando, and we have had 80 days of rain in the last 100, (and are about to get five more). Because of the rain, most people would not bring the SX-70 (or any non-sealed camera) outside to take photos. On the average day, you would end up with a $400 piece of junk, (which may be very well what you were looking at in the camera store.)

I was just trying to provide some context. There are plenty of great bridge cameras out there that are not sitting around dead in camera stores within a year of manufacture.

I bought the SX50 in part because it could use my Canon flash on its hot-shoe. I found I rarely use it. If I am willing to have that big a rig, I'll go to the 80D & flash. But I will keep the SX50!

It offers two feature that an uncooperative subect does not sometimes, catch-lights which bring animals to life and fill light when contrast is too much. Also when you shoot indoors, it can give you an usable image that otherwise may not be balanced with the pop up flash.
