Looking for some help with speed lites, I just received a Yongnuo YN685 as a gift & have no clue as to its workings. Can anyone out there recommend any sort of reference material as to how to use & understand speedlites? I googled & searched YouTube but all I get is reviews on the YN685 which isn’t helping at all, just trying get the basics as a start would really be great. I appreciate your time & any assistance that can be offered.
CreativeLive.com has a class on flash and lighting on sale this weekend for $19. Search on their website for the topic below.
Skill set: Best of Lighting
Why pay for a class when there is a ton of good information on YouTube. Syl Arena has some excellent videos on using the Canon speedlites.

Syl Arena?

He has also published an excellent book entitled "The Speedliter's Handbook". This is my go to guide for any lighting problem I encounter when using one or multiple speedlites.

The secret to getting good information from a Google search is to input the right search words. Try searching on "Speedlight tips" or "speedlight uses" or "how to use a speedlight" instead of "Yongnuo 685".
Also, search Adorama TV for anything by Mark Wallace. He has some great speedlight videos.
The Yongnuo 685 is a great choice. I love that thing. You can mount it vertically, as well as horizontally. It has a three-pronged connector for the YN-5200 battery.
There really is tons of information about speedlights on YouTube.
Youtube has A LOT of informative videos on photographic lighting. I bought a set of Yongnuo YN 560 iii SLs (great price, work fine) for a project, watched a several yongnuo "how to's", and no problem
All great info, thank you to everyone for taking the time respond & share!
Try these two respected sources for how to use flash lighting with a flash device (AKA flash).
https://neilvn.com/tangents/flash-photography-techniques/https://strobist.blogspot.com/Know that learning how to do flash lighting involves its own learning curve. I can tell you, however, that the first time you successfully use bounced flash lighting, you'll become hooked on it.
Good luck.

YouTube Videos! I just got two Flashpoint flash units (similar Chinese knock-offs); Flashpoint, Yogngnuo and Godox. I found videos useful. There is an instruction booklet but it lacks in techniques. You might not want to look for camera specific (Dedicated TTL) units. Many of the flash / speedlites on the market are similar if not identical.

Try this video:

I agree about bounce flash. I did this photo using bounce flash. The room has a bright, white ceiling. It was great for bounce flash.
